So excited about UCD! I'm still riding the rush from being recently admitted haha.
On a more practical note, what is the living situation like in Davis? About how much does the typical apartment cost? Any comments about the town of Davis itself would be great.

Davis is awesome, but not for everyone. Make sure you visit before you commit, but I fell in love with it.jahallc wrote:So excited about UCD! I'm still riding the rush from being recently admitted haha.

I am not accepted yet, but I plan on attending if accepted!

This website basically answers all of your questions about life in Davis: http://daviswiki.org/Front_Page. I wish more schools could put together something this comprehensive!

Come to UCD, Veritas! Did you grow up in California?
P.S. I'm paying my seat deposit in the next week or two. It's making me really excited.

I'm in NY, and I don't think ASD is an option for me. Does it look bad if I don't show to something like that? Am I at a significant disadvantage?

I have to miss the ASD because everything under the sun is happening on April 10th. I'm going to try and make the alumni/admitted students reception in LA on the 15th. Someone be sure and take pictures or post an update after the ASD. I'm so angry that I won't be able to attend.

Hey there people. Congrats on getting in. Feel free to PM me (or just post here) if you have any questions about Davis, and I will try and get back to you as my laziness permits. I am a 1L at UCD right now, and there are a number of other UCD students who browse TLS, so hopefully one of them will jump in and answer questions if I'm slacking.

Re: UC Davis Class of 2013
The tab for UCs is steep and getting steeper, there's no getting around that and it really sucks. With luck, you'll kill it 1L year and they'll throw you some please-don't-transfer money. In any event, the price is comparable to Hastings and UCI tuition-wise, but the COL in Davis is an awful lot lower than San Francisco or Orange County.Veritas wrote:damn, Davis is expensive.

Re: UC Davis Class of 2013
you're right, the COL definitely helps, but unless they throw some cash comparable to UCI's half, it will be hard to seriously consider them. I know they are good with need based grants, so I'm going to wait to see what's in that for me.SoftBoiledLife wrote:The tab for UCs is steep and getting steeper, there's no getting around that and it really sucks. Is it worth asking for scholly reconsideration? I feel like the UCs aren't the most negotiation friendly schools.

Re: UC Davis Class of 2013
Right now, there just isn't a lot of money to throw at people. While it's always worth asking, the odds aren't good IMHO. I would, however, be a bit cautious about going to UCI over UCD/H, just because it's still a relative unknown (I know this has been talked to death on TLS, that's just my opinion) with employers, USNews, etc.Veritas wrote:you're right, the COL definitely helps, but unless they throw some cash comparable to UCI's half, it will be hard to seriously consider them. Ya, I'm caught up on people's opinions. I'm going to visit first and get a better feel for the experience. I have confidence in the professors/administrators putting their professional reputations on the line to establish this school.SoftBoiledLife wrote:Right now, there just isn't a lot of money to throw at people. Re: UC Davis Class of 2013
One of you should make a UCD c/o 2013 facebook group if that hasn't been done already. Great way to network with ppl during the summer, find roommates, etc.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
Now there's a charge.
