Did anyone see the message for the mentoring program on the facebook page? Is anyone going to participate in it? Just wondering.

I never learned how to study. High school was easy and college tests that required heavy heavy memorization applied in just the right way I bombed. Anyone have any memorization tips? I'm good with concepts, but if I have flashcards I just end up memorizing the the shape of the words with the definition instead of the actual word. Or maybe that's ok and ALL the tests will be open note...
I heard it's a good book to help understand exams better. I also read Law School Confidential and (although it's a bit outdated, esp when discussing laptops) I thought it helped provide a good picture of what I should expect in law school. I mean, as far as I know.

I saw that but I will most likely pass on participation. I'm more of a solo/small group person, and I feel like the time might be better spent independently prepping. But I could be wrong and maybe I will end up joining.

Tests should be open note, but whether or not we'll have time to look things up is the question. I'm much the same way in terms of memorization; it's probably going to be the hardest part as I'm more of a visual learner and I feel like college shot my short term memory. At this point, my methodology is memorization and regurgitation until I can remember the basics for application. It is far from the best approach but currently the only way I can remember things anymore.

If I ever want a mentor, I'll just find one myself.

I decided against it too. It could be helpful, but to me it feels like it'll be just one more thing to keep track of. One appointment to make every week or so. Too much pressure, unnecessary added stress.

Speaking of stress. I just walked a a half mile to CVS to buy printer paper so I could print out the thing I need for GW orientation, just in case I don't have my printer by then. Normally that's not a big deal of a walk. But there was a festival all day and now the sidewalks are blocked by tents and the roads are full of drunk people, cars, and street sweepers who don't care if they hit you. I got the paper. But... now that I'm home... well... does anyone know what form I might have needed the paper for? =/

That, my friend, is the problem. I have no idea what I thought I needed to print.

I don't think we need anything...otherwise I'm about to be unprepared for orientation

I thought it was something for health insurance or for loan deferral or something. But I already have the loan deferral form. Oy. Oh well. All I can think of is it's the form for travel reimbursement from this spring.

Immunization form, perhaps?

No I just mailed that... is the travel reimbursement form on the website or is it in our materials? I checked our materials but couldn't find it. So I guess that was what the paper was for.

Hey! Guess what I just did. I just hired a professional shipper from uship.com. It cost me about the same as penske+gas+my mom's handyman helping would have. As long as he shows up moving in is going to be SO nicely simple. And I get to ride with my boyfriend instead of having him follow in the car :D It's a little risky because if he doesn't show up I'm going to spend a fortune on renting a truck last minute.. but... worth it!

u have no idea how useful my mentor was. its the small things. where are the best lockers? how to reserve a study room? whats the top 35% cutoff? what classes to take next year? how many interviews can i expected at oci?

u dont meet once a week...u meet whenever u need something. you email him/her. u see him/her at bar review to have a drink.
Where are the best lockers, anyway? By the time I get to pick I'll probably have a pretty good idea but... well, if you know you ought to tell us.

it's on the ed website, but the thing is I'm not sure we need it because apparently some schools do it automatically? I figured I need to go talk to them to find out anyway so I may as well have it.

I hope it's casual... the pre-orientation is business friday but that's because of the court.
...I'm going casual. Is it supposed to be hot next week? I'm from the great lakes. we don't do hot. If that's the case I'll be the one wearing a mismatched outfit. tshirt +skirt.

Probably the same "dress code" we have for class...meaning whatever you feel is appropriate.

I'm personally tee-shirting and gym-shorting it to class every day because I don't care about my dress for most non-formal occasions. I'll probably go with jeans/nice shorts and a polo or button down for most orientation events.
