Re: GW Class of 2013
it's right on craigslist! there are some by the Herzegovina Embassy and there are some between I and Pennsylvania Ave. The furnished ones are 1400 but the unfurnished seem to run about 1250... --LinkRemoved--. There are others listed in the same building that have been posted in the past (like 2 a month) hence me assuming there are plenty.
Here's another building with some
--LinkRemoved--
those are both closer to two blocks away. how terribly terrible.

So, what are you guys thinking of doing for food? Just buying stuff for the minifridge or getting some sort of meal plan!?

I'm thinking that my primary plan will be to invest in pasta and rice-a-roni. And, y'know, whatever else can be found on the cheap.Teoeo wrote:So, what are you guys thinking of doing for food? Just buying stuff for the minifridge or getting some sort of meal plan!?
Clearly my plan is based on health, not cost.

other than that, I love pasta with plain tuna on top and a little cheese.... or rice... stir fry can be made cheaply.
and lean cuisine steamers can be got for $1.50 each!

Everyone who asks to be in the Aston is put on a waiting list, and then they actually let people know about spots in summer (June, I think).

I dunno about that. I was put on the "reservation list" and told I'd hear about unit assignments and move-in details sometime in the spring.
I've been operating under the assumption that I have a spot there. If I don't....well, I'd have to start figuring stuff out. Hah.

I believe there is a reservation list for those who contacted GWU first, and then there's a waiting list after that. I'm sure there are people who showed interest in the Aston but will actually be doing their own thing.

I'm on the "reservation" list too, now that I look back at the email. What I said earlier about everyone being put on a wait list comes from their website. So I'm not entirely sure on the difference between "reservation" and "wait" lists.

detailed instruction about student loan application
Has anybody received an email from Dean Richard about how we should apply for student loan? The email I received earlier from her said she would send the detailed instruction after May 1st. I haven't received the email yet, and am just curious what about you guys.

I am on the reservation list also. Also, I accepted loans/merit aid a month ago but maybe we will be receiving more instructions in may about the logistics of receiving the loans!?

I don't think we get the loans til the fall, so they'll probably send out the paperwork in june or july after deposits are in.Teoeo wrote:I am on the reservation list also. +1 To my understanding, the school receives all loans, allocates what it needs for tuition, and then gives you a check for the balance approximately one or two weeks after the semester starts.sibley wrote:I don't think we get the loans til the fall, so they'll probably send out the paperwork in june or july after deposits are in.Teoeo wrote:I am on the reservation list also. About housing, I don't think they know exactly where the cut-off is for the Aston. I was told they have not looked at the number of people yet, but it "looked like will be fine."

Re: detailed instruction about student loan application
Apply for student loans? You do that through FAFSA, and as you are filling out the application, you put GW as a school you are sending it to (you can send the app to several schools if you wish). Once you submit the FAFSA application, it will be automatically sent to GW. then GW can figure out the loans you will be getting. Once GW has gotten your loans straight, they will send you an email so that you can take a look at them. If you haven't filled out the FAFSA yet, you need to do that ASAP. Hope that helps!!hope08 wrote:Has anybody received an email from Dean Richard about how we should apply for student loan? I wish I saw something that low. Decent studios I've been looking are around $1600. yikes.umichgrad wrote:For a 1-br within walking distance, expect to pay $1200 minimum.terpette wrote:ditto but they are looking SUPER expensiveGermX wrote:I want a one-bedroom apt., I'm sick of studios. Yeah that's the norm. A much better option would be to live near McPherson Square or the Capitol South/Eastern Market metros--both very cute areas (and Cap. South you can find bigger -brs for like 900-1000). While you can't walk to GW from Cap. South or Eastern Market, it's only like a 15 minute total commute.terpette wrote:I wish I saw something that low. Re: GW Class of 2013
hey all this is for anyone who knows about the Presidential Merit Scholarship that you get if admitted ED.
On the website it says that students admitted ED must "commit to attend The George Washington University Law School and pay a non-refundable seat deposit in the amount of $1,500 no later than Jan 31, 2010."
http://www.law.gwu.edu/Admissions/apply ... early.aspx
Well, I think it's sort of strange that if you're admitted with a full tuition scholarship that you have to pay $1,500. I guess a seat deposit is considered separate from tuition? Or is this something that they reimburse you for? Are there any other sort of small "hidden charges" someone who is admitted ED could expect?
Also, do Pres. Merit Scholars get any sort of academic perks? Like a special faculty adviser, first pick for clinics, or anything like that?
Is anyone here an ED scholarship person? I just have a lot of questions about it b/c I'm considering doing GW ED in the coming cycle. Thanks!
