For those of you who have received your loan letter, did it say you were missing the Perkins Master Promissory Note? The website says we have to do that in late August/Early September at the school, so I don't need to worry about that right now, right? Sorry if this is a dumb question.

Should we all still expect to have firm jobs if we want them even ITE? I want to know what you guys think are reasonable expectations in terms of landing BIGLAW jobs.

PS Raise your hand if you're stoked for the booze cruise during the first night of orientation.

Ah, that's how they make it. My dad is a physics professor and sometimes he gives presentations at elementary schools where he makes nitrogen ice cream. I actually think it's better than most ice cream.ClemCarter wrote:Yes! iCream! They wear lab coats and use liquid nitrogen! SO COOL!thorntll wrote:Finally have a place to live! I laughed so hard when I heard it was called iCream. That's so fucking dirty sounding.

hey guys-
so i know the law school recommended a dell latitude e6410 but a dell rep told me that the studio is basically the same thing and you get more for your money. Does anyone know why they recommend the latitude specifically and is anyone else thinking of getting something different?

Re: UChicago Class of 2013
It says in the letter that they recommend it just on the basis of it being a solid reliable machine that does everything you need, but they also say you can get whatever computer you want. I'll be using my MBP. Even though the law school recommends Dells, a lot of people find those machines to be less than reliable. Re: UChicago Class of 2013
I went to the store and looked at the Dell they recommended but didn't get it because I thought it was too heavy to haul around every day. I bought a little 12" netbook for taking notes. I have a regular sized laptop I use at home that I can do work on though, and use for exams, etc.
Everyone cries over Dell but I've had two different ones and no problems.

Re: UChicago Class of 2013
my dell has always sucked major balls. ive had it for a year and ive had to send it back for major repairs twice and i just bought a netbook for most of my functions cuz my dell has completely crapped out on me. the battery, which never lasted too long in the first place, now barely lasts for 15 minutes of word processing. and it freezes every half hour at least. i had a studio, fwiw.
when i read that laptop letter, it sounded like a big advertisement for dell. given uchicago's partnership with dell, that's probably what it is, imo. there are plenty of other decent laptops out there. i'd recommend reading reviews online, like the ones at laptopmag.com (i think that's the site name). the upside to having a dell at uchicago, though, is that when it does break, they can repair it there so you wont have to wait a couple weeks to get your computer back.

I wouldn't publicize that. IAFG might pay someone to "make it look like an accident".JollyGreenGiant wrote:alcohol + my inability to swim = someone gets in off the waitlistgotmilk? wrote:*Raises hand*ClemCarter wrote: PS Raise your hand if you're stoked for the booze cruise during the first night of orientation.

If this occurs, can the rest of us split your financial aid amongst ourselves? The 2010-11 budget the SLA provided did not include a "Jameson" line item. Very disturbing oversight. Not Yet. They sent me a possible one a few weeks ago, but it wasn't in the "Law School Zone" or the floor plan I wanted, so i opted out of it. I thought they said we would start getting them in August.hiromoto45 wrote:Has anyone received their unit assignment from Regents yet?

Ratner does not have one, but a lot of the private gyms in Chicago do.gotmilk? wrote:does anyone out there rock climb? any ideas if there is a gym or wall anywhere nearby? i'd love to be able to continue it in law school if possible.

do you know of any specific ones/how nice they are/how far away? i won't have a car or anything, so it may be difficult to get to one if it is far away.ClemCarter wrote:Ratner does not have one, but a lot of the private gyms in Chicago do.gotmilk? wrote:does anyone out there rock climb? any ideas if there is a gym or wall anywhere nearby? i'd love to be able to continue it in law school if possible.
