Partner at V10 vs V50

Postby Anonymous User » Thu Nov 05, 2009 3:31 pm

If you are interested in making partner, does it make sense to start as an associate at a lower ranked firm so that you have a better chance, or are the exit options so much better at a V10 that it is better to put in 3 years there and move on? Can you lateral into partner at a different firm? I've heard partners at V10 firms take in 2-3 mil. How much do partners make at firms where it is easier to make partner?

Partner comp can be all over the board. There are rainmakers who pull in $3M at lower V100 firms, and non-equity partners at much higher ranked firms that pull in $400k.
