This poll doesn't help that much, because every year, 90% of people get no offers - it all depends on what law school they go to. Without knowing the demographics of the voters, we don't know whether this rate is worse or better than usual (just from the poll, that is - obviously we know it is worse from other sources)

I hate when people do this and google doesn't help. It'll drive me crazy all day.

It's from Arrested Development. Gob was hitting on a model selling a car. She was refusing to give him her number unless he put down a firm offer on the car.

Later on in that epi, after finding out that Gob bought the boat, Michael tells Gob, in front of their mother, to "get rid of the Seaward." The mother chimes in, "I'll leave when I'm good and ready." Work experience was a huge selling point this year. People with work experience at good schools got multiple offers. People without work experience at good schools got nothing.

Me? 2 offers, waiting to hear back from 4 callbacks, and I already rejected a few other callbacks.

How much WE is considered significant enough to be lumped into the "WE" category?

--> Give me a break. Having a couple years of work experience tells the firm that you're more of a "sure thing" than some kid right out of college. They can assume that you can handle being at work every day at 9:00am. That you know how to juggle multiple deadlines. That you likely know proper phone/email etiquette and what "being professional" means.

Sure, it's not going to be 100% accurate. And yes, most kids right out of college eventually figure it out. But if I were hiring someone, you can be sure that I'd prefer someone with a few years of work experience than some 23 year old who has only worked one summer as a lifeguard and interned for another summer. No offense to the 23 year olds out there.

eh, I assumed that when saying WE it was implicit that it was related-WE. i.e. something finance/business oriented for transactional work (not sure what type of experience litigation departments look for--they seem to be more interested in your grades)

obviously being GREAT at interviewing matters, but unfortunately for most people it is not something they can greatly improve. sure, mock interviews and whatnot can help, but you can't just magically obtain charm.

I don't think it even has to be "related WE." I have friends whose work experience involves teaching, being a musician, being a paralegal, working in a policy group, etc.

I also don't think it has to be related - but if it's not, you have to be able to draw parallels. I have three years of work experience that could not be farther away from working at a law firm but I came up with really great skills that I had learned at that job that were very applicable to being a lawyer and I really think that helped me during interviews - because nearly all of them asked about it.

I definitely think WE helped me get callbacks and offers. I ended up luckier than many of my classmates in terms of # of cbs and I think a lot - or at least a part - of the reason why was because of my WE.

I'd say for me, the two most frequently asked about topics at screening (and cbs, for that matter) were:
1) what I did this summer and what I thought about it
2) WE
3) why I transferred

that's it. I got 10+ cbs and so far 3 offers, finishing up cbs and waiting on some other offers/dings post-cb.

EDIT - to say that interviewing skills definitely did help, both at screening and at cb though.

I've been on 5 callbacks (5 to go), and questions about my work experience have by far the most common. I've also had several interviewers talk about how much the valued work experience and how much it translated into working at a firm.

Crickets after 3 CBs. 5 more to go. Is it possible to have 8 callbacks and not get an offer? My first CB was a week and a half ago. I'm starting to get nervous.
