On this board, maybe even in real life, I think they're considered tertiary at best. I think "secondary market" refers to nation-wide, not state-wide markets. Secondary markets = Atlanta, Houston, Dallas, etc.[/quote]

My bad, then. In this economy, though, I'm not too upset.

24 screening interviews (22 OCI, 2 from resume spam/networking)

I'm thinking about just running with the offer I got--I like them, they apparently like me, why prolong the suffering?

Congrats. I have a couple of good friends likely accepting at Irell as well, and I strongly considered it before opting for a peer firm in LA. You accepting at LA (century city)?

Had four chicago callbacks, all before labor day, havent heard back from a single one. Most of them said it would be a long wait. One actually called me and said 'sorry for the long wait, but please keep waiting'.

Don't they pay something like $190K starting there? Baller.

Irell pays market, $160k + bonus. They do, however, offer $50k for a clerkship bonus, and if market salaries in NY ever do go up to $190k (Not likely to happen for quite awhile), Irell will probably be the first LA firm to match.

How long are callback interviews running, timewise?

I have my first tomorrow, and it's 2 30-minute interviews with 2 attorneys in each session.

Is 1 hour and 4 attorneys within the norm? Is there really a norm?

I'm not sure there is a real "norm." It varies by firm. I did one where it was like five 20-minute interviews, and I did another where it was four 30-minute interviews. All of them were with just one attorney. It varies a lot though.

I haven't had any two person interviews. Mine have been 30 minutes each (except one firm had 20 minute slots). I've had as few as 4 interviewers and as many as 10.

It definitely varies. So far I've had:

3 interviewers - 30 minutes each

4 interviewers - 20 minutes each

5 interviewers - 30 minutes each

I hate 2 person interviews, especially if they conduct it in an "L" formation with you at the point. I've never felt more awkward.

At least the three of you aren't all naked. Imagine how that would make you feel.

This. Why prolong the suffering, especially when career services keeps scaring me about firms that might rescind my offer if I don't accept soon. Are they scaring you about this, too?

I think this is more about career services trying to place as many people from your school as possible. The sooner you accept an offer, the sooner you turn down others and/or withdraw from other CBs, opening up spots for other people in your class. I wouldn't wait too long with firms, and if you are going past two weeks, I would probably check in and let them know where you are in the process, but I don't think there is a need to make a panicked acceptance if you don't have all of the information you need. OTOH, if you don't see yourself accepting an offer from the places you haven't interviewed with yet over the one you already have, then there is no point in dithering about it and wasting both your own time and the firm's time.

We've only had one week of OCI; I'll update as interviews go on.

Update:
14 interviews (2 non-OCI)
7 callbacks
5 rejections
2 ?? I'm guessing rejections.

Market is Chicago. Slow as molasses.

I sent out about 20 non-OCI letters. Two dings, two callbacks. The rest, nothing.

Finished callbacks. So far one rejection, five pending, and (most important) one offer. I'm so relieved.

Anyone get a sense of whether an interviewer running way over time with you is a good sign?

It's no indication.
