I was faced with the same decision last time they had a big sale. I chose the Jefferson (after trying on both at a B&M store), and I have no regrets. The leather feels softer, it's more comfortable, and the details are nicer.

Should I get a sport coat or a blazer for biz casual firm shit this summer? Never worn either before. And where's a good place to get a decent one at a reasonable price?

I was thinking of getting something in the middle. Blazer like colors (neutral like grey), pocket hidden, but with sport coat-like light simple pattern

Where is one to get a good looking slim-fit suit. I have some suits from yesteryear that are considered slim fit, but are bulky in the ankles/lower legs. I have taken them to get tailored two-three times but can't seem to get them to fit like a good fair of slim fit jeans or corduroy. You could even call it extra slim fit if you wanted, but I'm looking for a suit more along those lines without let's say spending 1500.

Any thoughts beyond JosABank/Mens Warehouse/Macys/Nordstrom?

Thanks and do you just go with an off-the-rack selection and have it tailored?

Yup. Make it to a brick and mortar location if you can. Their in-house tailoring + quality of cusomter care bats WAY above their price range.

Yeah, though I'd recommend going to one of the store locations if possible to try on the different cuts because they all have slightly different fits. The Napoli is the most conservative and suited for legal interviews IMO.

Also know that Suit Supply doesn't do suit separates and I believe they use a 6 inch drop from jacket to pants size, so you'll need the pants taken in or out if you don't fit the mold. Other than that, the suits are slim fitting enough that you'll only need a hem and then possibly lengthening/shortening of the sleeves and/or squaring off the neck. Their in-house tailoring prices are reasonable and have a short turn around (3 days I think), but I prefer to go to a private tailor if I need much more than a hem. Trust issues.

On the topic of Suit Supply, would like to get some thoughts on the two suits linked below. I work at a fairly conservative dress NYC firm (suit not technically required, but most in my group where one). I already have a dark navy BB Fitzgerald, and a dark blue with light pin stripes. Which would you choose of the two below? I'm leaning towards the light grey given that I already have the dark navy, but is it too light? Alternatively, if I decide to get both, is there anything that jumps out as a red flag about either? I have both at home and each seems to fit well.

Thanks in advance.

i'd say go with your gut and get the lighter gray for variety. but there is nothing objectionable about either suit. just plz wear socks.

What's a creditted second pair of AEs for being an SA in a business formal NYC firm? I already have black park aves. I'm thinking dark brown 5th aves? The answer is not walnut strands, right, those are definitely too casual?

5th, strands, or McAllisters in chilli (more versatility than walnut) or walnut (if you have greyish suits/pants). I personally don't like walnut with navy.

PS there's an AE sale tomorrow, $106 off regular price

I think walnut is just as versatile as chili, but I'm pretty fashion forward. Cordovan is better than both.

How do we feel about bright color laces? I started wearing them with my dress shoes in most social and at my gov internship, but I thought it might not be conservative enough for semi-stodgy NYC biglaw.

I've been a fan of Combatant Gentleman. Can't beat the prices. Pretty decent quality too. https://combatgent.com/suits

I'm in the same boat. Looking for a jacket that is versatile that I can dress up or down.

Just my initial search, but thoughts on these?

You want a Navy blazer for versatility in going with all colors and it's ability to be dressed up or down.

Get this, or something like it:
