Re: Suits (Clothing, not law)
Question about dress shoes:
I purchased a pair of dark brown dress shoes from Cole Haan and it has the Nike air tech and rubber soles. It might be a hybrid dress shoe. Would that be appropriate to wear with a suit? It looks pretty good but I'm concerned about the rubber sole (almost has like boot-like bottom).

Rubber sole isn't necessarily the death knell for shoes. Might be more appropriate with a business casual outfit though. Pics?nooyyllib wrote:Question about dress shoes:

Re: Suits (Clothing, not law)
I can't find the exact shoe on the internet and they are currently at parents' house (I'm at school for the writing comp). But they looked good with my suit when I tried them on. I got em mainly because I'm going to be walking/taking the subway alot this summer...I'll try to post pics asap..patrickd139 wrote:Rubber sole isn't necessarily the death knell for shoes. I saw a pair of A testoni dress shoes on Gilt for 200...so I'm trying to see if I should return those and get that.

Re: Suits (Clothing, not law)
i think i have the same shoe, in black. i think Pufer commented on them earlier in the thread, actually. i wear them with suits, and as far as i can tell no one has found it inappropriate. they're also extraordinarily comfortable. as long as you like them, i wouldn't worry about it.nooyyllib wrote:I can't find the exact shoe on the internet and they are currently at parents' house (I'm at school for the writing comp). Re: Suits (Clothing, not law)
I know it's buried somewhere in this thread, but does anyone know the dates for BB's super awesome (I think twice-yearly) sales? And does JAB have distinct awesome sales or are they always just giving 3-for-1 deals or whatever on a more or less constant basis?

I don't see why those could not be worn with the right suit.nooyyllib wrote:

Re: Suits (Clothing, not law)
For BB, I think the semi-annuals are in late June and right after Christmas. The friends and family sales are usually a bit before those. The Xmas one is the best, with another pretty good one around Thanksgiving.aschup wrote:I know it's buried somewhere in this thread, but does anyone know the dates for BB's super awesome (I think twice-yearly) sales? There is no real rhyme or reason to when the best JAB sales hit. A three-for-one pretty reliably comes during late summer, but they can happen whenever.
As long as it's not an interview shoe, it'll be fine. Both Cole Haan and Florsheim are pretty good at making rubber soles that could pass as leather soles at a glance.nooyyllib wrote:so you think its aite?

Just one question: do you guys think that shoe is too "flashy" for a SA (1L)?

How do you go about the soles? I heard you can attach some rubber grip things (?) or scratch em up with something so I don't slip?

Re: Suits (Clothing, not law)
just got an email about a 40% off memorial day sale at the BB factory store...worth checking out (for shirts/pants/ties/shoes, not suits), or should i hold out for a regular store sale?

Re: Suits (Clothing, not law)
Pants, yes. personally I think the credited response for shirts and ties is Marshall's, but if the 40% off puts it a BB shirt around those prices then I say go for it.fatduck wrote:just got an email about a 40% off memorial day sale at the BB factory store...worth checking out (for shirts/pants/ties/shoes, not suits), or should i hold out for a regular store sale?

What are the best places to get affordable but decent pants in NYC?

Ties: personally I'd go to Saks 5th off when they have sales. I got Hugo Boss and Versace ties for 50 bucks each. Win.HenryKillinger wrote:I think the credited response for shirts is Marshall's
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
Now there's a charge.
