PS is personnel statement.---Many PSs state the same thing over and over. Desire to serve, appealing to patriotism not much about themselves. ITE you need to show public service commitment, not a fall back because they didn't get big law.

Feb board cancelled. Not included in stats.

hey all,
I finally got my 1l summer internship! I am going to be working in a small wills trusts and estates firm. I know the jag corp likes public interest law, but i also know a big chunk of what the JAG's do involves that type of law. Do you think the selection board will care at all? Also i think i am going to try to find a second internship, maybe at a legal clinic or some kind of public interest place. is working at two places frowned upon?

So, I tried calling the Navy Jag Accessions office to find out when the board meets and/or when the results are expected to come out. I can never get them on the phone. Have any of you had any luck finding out information or trouble getting them on the phone?

I'm in the same boat. This is my dream job too. I guess I'll re-apply, but yeah, maybe we should take the hint :(

I'm pretty sure they'll be posted on Monday April 25th. That's based on the amount of time it took them to post results for the last couple of boards.

The army is far more transparent than the Navy. It is interesting to see the various schools that made up both the select and alternate list.

I wouldn't give up hope if it's a dream job of yours but at the least, give it one more shot.

Anyone have any idea how long it will take to hear back about the April 15th Army Reserve board? I know the due date hasn't even passed yet, but I submitted back in mid-March, so I'm already getting antsy. Mid-July? That would comport with the length of the most recent reserve board. However, if they get back on the schedule they appeared to be on last year, perhaps late May/early June?

Hey guys, hate to be a pain in the ass. just got a question about board preferences with 1l work. im working with a small Trust and Estates firm this summer. I know the jag corp likes public interest work on your resume. should i try to find a second job with a public interest law clinic, maybe a legal aid society? are there any draw backs? I only ask because im applying to the student program with the navy and the Air Force OCYP program.

I appreciate all of your help.

As a general FYSA so my eyes do not continue bleeding while reading new posts: "JAG Corps." That is the only way to type it. JAG is an acronym and therefore, always in caps. Corps is one of those pesky words that has letters, in this case "s", which we do not pronounce when it is spoken.

"Jag corp" makes me think of the car company. :)

Working at two places is not going to be frowned upon; showing an early commitment to public service will do you well. JAGs are true generalists in terms of law practice - having a wide knowledge and interest base is a good thing. If possible, I would get involved with a Federal agency or Fed/State/Local Prosecutors or Defenders. At least with AF, the boards look positively on skill/interest in the courtroom.

While it is great you have a 1L summer position in this economy, the Wills/Estates will not do anything special for you in terms of selection. JAGs at the base level do that sort of thing as part of legal assistance and generally keep it pretty basic.

I really appreciate it. im going to send some cover letters around to public defenders legal aid societies in the area im going to be working (hampton roads are of VA.) Hopefully i can find a public defenders office that is willing to give me a couple of hours a week. I am hoping now that i have a job lined up it will make it look like im interested in learning different things, and not just desperate for a job.

Once again, Thanks for your answer. Hopefully i wont get too busy this summer that I mess up my moot court brief!

Totally agree! I really don't understand why the Navy is so secretive with their process. I guess they have their reasons, though. :D

Well, if no one else has, maybe I'll put it all together and try to get a TLS article out of it. :)

Well, typically people just pop by and ask questions -- there's been some discussion of summarizing the info within, but nothing has ever come of it. I bet an article would be really helpful; maybe something that breaks down the process from start to finish, or answers basic questions about the JAG Corps. That's a lot to take on, but hey, people would really appreciate it I'm sure.

The problem with an article is that there really isn't anything that will clearly set out one candidate in front of another because of the AF's "whole person" focus.

If someone wants an article, here are things to do on your application/interview:
[*]Look the part
[*]Focus on public service
[*]Focus on trial advocacy/courtroom experience
[*]Get good grades
[*]Pay attention to detail
[*]Show that you can lead others.

There are a lot of mushy concepts which allows for a ton of wiggle room. Your interviewing JAG is going to ask you hard questions and see how you respond. I interviewed for GLP back in January, and I was asked, point blank, about my drug use. He asked me to say, explicitly, exactly what happened and the circumstances. It was extremely awkward.

Based from what I've read, Navy JAG results are typically posted on a Monday. Can anyone confirm this? I've been going crazy and checking the site daily.

I cannot confirm that results are always posted on a Monday. They were posted on a Monday for the last board though.

Yeah, and if they follow the same schedule that they followed in the fall, they should come out next Monday, the 25th. Good luck everyone.

WOOO HOOOO! Just want to confirm that the results ARE coming out next week. I just called the accessions office and, although they were out of the office, the message stated that "results are anticipated for next week!" Good luck everyone!!!!!!!
