Congrats. Post your stats so we can all be angry\jealous\indignant at how much more qualified we are.

Happy to discuss my stats via PM.

For those of you not PR for Navy JAG (me too), have you applied in the past?

Sorry to hear about that. I plan on applying until I can't apply anymore. I've heard that they appreciate those that reapply many times because it shows that you really want it. Did you change anything in your package from board to board? Good luck on the next board if you plan to reapply!

Had my Detachment interview today. It went about as well as it could have, I think. Seemed like the Captain liked me and would be recommending me highly for my SJA interview.

If I feel this good after my SJA Interview (which is now scheduled!) I'll be extremely happy.

This was my first Navy SP board. I'm a 3L though, so the March board is my last application through the Student Program before I have to apply Direct Appointment which is even tougher to get.

Thanks, I do plan to reapply. I've added some more work experience and improved my GPA since my last app. Not much I can do anymore on those counts.. The two before that were similar.

Here comes Navy board #5. If it doesn't work out, I'll keep applying until I set the record for number of boards.

Congrats to those PR'd, and good luck to those re-applying as well!

Groundie - I've been "pending board decision" for about a week or so now.

I just noticed that Army changed the 4-8 weeks prediction for the November board to January 2011. From the website:

"2L & ACTIVE DUTY APPLICATIONS CURRENTLY UNDER REVIEW
Applications for the 1 November deadline for 2L Summer Internships and Active Duty positions are currently under review. Results will be posted in early January 2011. Announcements will be made on this website."

I predict January 7-8th.

Well, at least I can put it out of my mind until after finals and Christmas. Crossing my fingers for good results.

*By the way, does anyone have any encouraging stories of applying multiple times and then being selected? I'm sure a few of us here would like to hear about such circumstances to remain hopeful.

I heard through the grapevine that the military has suspended giving pretty much any waivers for the time being (not sure about age ones), so for those accepted, be warned a bit. I have no idea if this applies to JAG or not (even though MEPS standards are the same more or less for everyone) but maybe they grant more waivers to professionals. Something to think about though.

Things that need to be waived for MEPS. Medical, mental health, maybe even age

Hey guys, I figured I'd drop in and rejoin the conversation. I'm a 3L who just applied for a direct commission with Army JAG. This is something I've wanted to do basically from day one of law school, and in that vein I was able to do a 1L internship at Fort Riley, KS, and a 2L internship at Camp Zama, Japan.

For what it's worth, I didn't find out about my 2L Army internship until about the second or third week of January. After that, it took another 6-8 weeks for the Army to give me my final location.

If you guys have some questions about either the 1L or 2L Army internship, please feel free to ask and I'll do my best to answer.

EDIT: my handle is "jag2L" but that's only because I registered it last year and apparently couldn't foresee that I would become a 3L after my second year.

I applied to the last 4 Navy boards and was not PR'd. Applied to Army this year as a 3L. I did a 1L internship with the Army, so I'm not sure if that helped/hurt my chances with Navy, but I'm told it helps A LOT with Army!

Congrats to those who were PR'd by the Navy, and good luck to everyone who has applied for Army!

Good luck with the Army! I'm hoping to get the chance to do the internship this summer as a 2L. I've also heard that the internship helps a lot, especially if you get good letters of recommendation from it.

So, thought popped into my head this morning. Lets say you aren't PR for Army active duty, but are for reserves or Nat'l guard. How hard would it be to transfer active duty from there?

Best source would be a detailer, or whatever the equivalent is in the Army. My guess is that it would be relatively difficult to change from the reserves to the active side. Each side has its own force manning requirements. However, you may be able to volunteer for periods of extended active duty.

I really hope the Army PRs all of its previous 1L interns. I'm sure there are a bunch of former interns, both 1L and 2L, applying so it's definitely not an immediate gimme but I think we can at least breathe a bit easier.

One can never be too sure, however. During my 1L internship, the two 2L interns we had were picked as alternates rather than selections the following board. I'm not sure if they were ultimately plucked from the alternate list. To be honest, I have no idea why they weren't primary choices. During the entire internship, it seemed like the SJA was really impressed with those two.

I don't know their stats other than the fact that they're T1 students and were alternate selects for the 2L internship. Any former 1L interns have any stories regarding the 2L interns?

I was a 1L intern selected as an alternate for the 2L internship. And the only 2L I worked with during my 1L internship was selected his first time applying as a 3L.

I have three rec letters from LTC's, another personal rec. to JARO from another LTC, and another personal rec from an LTC (Ret.) and a current COL.

When I did my accessions interview, I was told they consider grades and school, but that is a really small part of it. They look strongly at your rec letters, resume, and personal statement. Also, if you have done an internship in the past, they will look at the review conducted of you from your internship as well.

But as you said, with the number of applicants continuing to rise, it's definitely not a gimmie! 2 other 1L's I worked with applied this year as well. One did the internship both 1L and 2L summer, and the other did the 1L internship, and is ROTC while in law school.

Keeping my fingers crossed!! Hope there are good results for everyone in January!

I've spent the past two days reading all these posts, and I'm actually surprised my two questions haven't been asked yet:

- Does anyone know anyone who has completed Air Force FLEP? I know all the requirements, and am getting ready to submit an application myself, but I would love to hear from someone with personal experience in the program.

- Does anyone know why the tuition limits for FLEP are so low (currently $16K/year, if I'm not mistaken?). I just got accepted to a state school with $30K/year tuition, and I'm worried I won't be able to go. I know academic scholarships can be used to bridge the gap, but why is the threshold so low to begin with? How many decent schools cost less than $16K?
