How soon is too soon to reapply?

Postby Anonymous User » Tue Sep 10, 2019 2:34 pm

I’ve been trying to go back home (smaller legal market) and applied to a firm 4-5 months ago. I lateraled to a different (more “prestigious”) firm right after I got the rejection from the hometown firm.

I do not like it here at all. Is it too soon to apply? I know that six months is usually what people say is a good wait time. But, given that I am at a different firm than when I first applied, would it be ok?

*I know I should probably stay at my firm longer, but I’m probably not able to for a number of reasons, which is why I am not waiting the six months

So you've been at this other firm for 4-5 months now? If that is the case I would advise waiting another month or two. It would seem strange that you could not wait another month or two and then reapply there as well as to other firms in your hometown. With that said it mostly depends on their hiring schedule/needs. If the hometown firm is looking for people now then just go for it.

Keep in mind though that you'll need to have a good answer, regardless where you interview, as to why you weren't able to last the year at your current firm. You don't want to appear a flight risk. Good luck.
