Willkie v. Baker McKenzie (NY)

Post by Anonymous User » Mon Aug 20, 2018 9:28 pm

Hey everyone. I was wondering what you think about choosing between these two. Baker McKenzie is definetly bigger and more international but they have a reputation of excessive work for bonuses and not the greatest offer rate while Willkie has a perfect offer rate and a good reputation with how they treat their associates.

For context I am interested in corporate work with an international twist if possible

I voted Willkie because Chambers ranks Willkie as Band 4 of the Elite NY corporate practices while Baker is listed under "Other Noted Firms" in the list of Highly Regarded NY corporate practices. That's a pretty big difference. https://www.chambersandpartners.com/128 ... torial/5/1

As far as culture, I don't know anyone at Baker very well but my friends at Willkie seem to really like it there.

Briefly following up because I quickly checked the AM Law rankings and was surprised to see a large difference between Willkie and Baker. Willkie is much higher in pretty much every category:

I'm guessing this will make a difference with offer rates, bonuses, raises, retention, partnership prospects, etc.
