Doomed?

Post by Anonymous User » Tue Jul 17, 2018 2:11 pm

Rising 2L a bit below median at a lower T14. I've been mass mailing to every market imaginable all summer, haven't even gotten one screener. Is EIW my last/best chance at finding a well paying job next summer/post-grad?

Do you have any hooks that make you special? For example, minority, work experience in a niche field, science background? If so, you need to play on those as much as possible as target firms that do that kind of work. Even if you have no intention of doing that long term, the important thing to do is get your foot in the door at a firm and get a summer position. Smaller firms will continue to hire well into second semester but they may not be Vault firms.

Saying this as a second-year associate.

Mass mailing isn't supposed to pay off in large numbers, especially since firms likely expect to hire the vast majority (if not all) of their summer classes through OCI programs. Mass mailing is worth it if it pays off just once. Additionally, the time when mass mailing can prove more reliable is AFTER OCI, as firms will have better pictures of their hiring needs and will be looking more actively to fill up their incoming class if needed... they're not looking to hire everyone before OCI.

Go through EIW, give it everything you have, and once that's over resume the mass mailing. You're hardly doomed if you haven't even gotten to EIW yet.
