Hey, sorry if im misusing the anon feature/posting in the wrong forum, im fairly new here, but I'd rather not reveal my username because it may become fairly obvious what school i attend. The school is in the NY region (TTT) and like the title says, i finished this semester w/ a 3.9 GPA (1l year). I was wondering if anyone knows of any firms in NY (most likely midlevel/smaller but if there are big firms friendly to TTT i'd like to know) I should try to shoot for as a 1l summer intern. I'm interested in litigating appeals, so anything where I could gain experience in litigation would be preferable. It does not matter the practice area, so long as I gain as much experience as possible. Pretty much I'd like to work at a firm that will give me good experience and opportunity to be competitive for a 2l biglaw SA position. Thanks.

you can massmail with a resume that prominently displays your GPA but it's a little late in the game to be applying for what little 1L SAs there are.

but not having a 1L SA doesn't affect your chances at getting a 2L screener so it's a moot point.

apply for USAO internship and judicial internships, and also try and remember that there's a whole second semester of grades to get in.

congrats on the grades, and also don't say "litigating appeals" in your interviews.

Congratulations on the GPA. Hopefully if biglaw is your goal, you've at least started to think about transfer options?

a 3.9 @ a TTT looking for a NYC SA (with an outside shot at A3 clerkship) is better off staying put than transferring bc the SA odds aren't affected much, they have a better shot at clerking in staying, and there'll be more scholly in staying put.

OP here, I was also planning on researching on this site and others what the better course of action would be in regards to transferring or not. BigLaw is my goal. I've been holding out on getting into that though because I do have another semester, although I am pretty optimistic I can do just as well.

1. Focus on grades.
2. Focus on grades.
3. Apply broadly to 1L jobs (big law, usao, fed court externships, etc).
4. Focus on grades some more.

....

5. Consider transfer options/2L OCI at current school.
6. If either of those options fall in place, course selection won’t matter.

If like, every single 2L with your grades has locked up an SA role, maybeee you could stay put. Otherwise I would focus on transferring. You WILL get a BigLaw job if you transfer to the top NY area schools. Unless you're borderline autistic and interviewers hate you, in which case you're even more fucked at your TTT. For example: http://www.law.columbia.edu/careers/emp ... nformation.

IDK why people are mentioning clerking already - your #1, #2, and #3-10 goals are locking up a job after graduation. Start hassling your professors for letters of recommendation ASAP.
