1L SA Thread - C/O 2020
Share info on dings, screeners, callbacks, etc. Including school range, office location, and whether grades have been sent would be helpful.

The key to landing a 1L SA is to mass apply. Given the number of positions available, it comes down to sheer luck even if you're at a top school with top grades. Good luck everyone!

NorCal Office interviews so far: MoFo/Perkins/Fenwick. No grades/no dings so far.
Didn't realize they dinged people right off the bat. I guess no news is good news.

Any info on whether most firms extend offers on a rolling basis or if it's fine to submit anytime before the deadline

Uhh I think it depends but I know several that say it's on a rolling basis - hence why some are disadvantaged by receiving grades later than others.Anonymous User wrote:Any info on whether most firms extend offers on a rolling basis or if it's fine to submit anytime before the deadline

Probably some firms care more about undergrad grades/rankingAnonymous User wrote:NorCal Office interviews so far: MoFo/Perkins/Fenwick. No grades/no dings so far.

T14 - Any point of sending out apps before grades come out to companies if you're non-diverse, targeting a major market, and have a kinda shitty undergrad college and undergrad gpa?

anecdotal evidence from 2Ls and 3Ls i know at my school, yes! go to NALP and find out which firms hire 1Ls. you probably have nothing else to do over break anyway.Anonymous User wrote:T14 - Any point of sending out apps before grades come out to companies if you're non-diverse, targeting a major market, and have a kinda shitty undergrad college and undergrad gpa?

T14 here. Guidance from our CSO was, "If you're applying to TX, get your packages in on Dec 1. All other applications can wait until post-finals, but you need to get them in before NYE."Anonymous User wrote:T14 - Any point of sending out apps before grades come out to companies if you're non-diverse, targeting a major market, and have a kinda shitty undergrad college and undergrad gpa?
The fact your grades won't come out until sometime in January seems to be common knowledge and, based on my (admittedly brief) experience, you'll just get a lot of emails back saying, "Thanks for your application. Update us with your grades when they come out."

Agree with this except that some firms wanted to do early screeners and those could potentially be done over break.Anonymous User wrote:T14 here. Yes - make the firms say no to you, don't do it for them.Anonymous User wrote:T14 - Any point of sending out apps before grades come out to companies if you're non-diverse, targeting a major market, and have a kinda shitty undergrad college and undergrad gpa?

I think it all depends on what you wrote for law school admissions and which firm you're applying to (I know I had to use two different statements for two different firms which asked different questions). Personally, my DS would not have worked for SA diversity jobs. My DS was about how I was diverse, whereas SA diversity jobs I've applied to ask not just how you're diverse but what you've done to show that diversity is a priority for you. I think I've had good luck so far - three big law interviews without grades so far.Anonymous User wrote:This might be completely off topic - mods please redirect post, if necessary.

The advice I've gotten in regards to modifying the diversity statement I used for law school was to address why your diversity would make you useful to the firm.Anonymous User wrote:I think it all depends on what you wrote for law school admissions and which firm you're applying to (I know I had to use two different statements for two different firms which asked different questions).
