The recruiting coordinator told me nothing happens until they see transcripts.

im an urm at a T10 with a 2.9. My dreams of getting a SA position are over. Not only did I stain my record with shitty grades I cost myself 30k.

We know. We talked in the thread you posted. The advice is the same.

Your dreams aren't over, you can still do all right in OCI, you have a whole semester to turn it around.

Stop wallowing around in self pity. It won't get you to your goals. Feel bad if you need to, then make a plan.

Are you at least URM? It'd be a small miracle to just flat out get it.

Has anyone who has applied to STB received a confirmation email or any kind? I applied a few weeks ago and have not heard anything.

I was the one who asked if willing to share firm via PM (didn't ask the URM question though) since I'm also targeting Houston.

In-person at one of the big tech firms in the Bay Area left me disappointed. Sucks because I had hopes that I would like it. I thought interviewers were supposed to be personable, but encountered awkward and disinterested people instead.

1L at T10. Non-URM, first generation graduate student (for whatever that's worth).

I truly thought I failed all of my finals so I didn't even consider the possibility of landing a 1L SA. Having gotten my grades back, I now think I could possibly be competitive for some positions (my school doesn't rank but based on some info I've seen, I'd guess I'm hovering around top 10%).

Any advice for trying to put together some competitive apps this late in the game? Or is it a waste of time given that 1) it's January and 2) I don't fit into any of the major diversity categories.

Two V50 offers in Dallas so far. T20 and non-diverse but IP.

You might not get a 1L SA but you can get your grades up to get a 2L SA. Find out what you did wrong, give second semester your all, and don't look back.

Don't think first generation graduate student is considered "diverse," though I guess there's no harm in sending apps anyway. Apply broadly to firms that have hired 1L SAs in the past.

No. They don't interview everyone. There's a preliminary and callback interview. It's a good sign but you still have a long ways to go before getting an offer -- try your best and don't look back.
How worried should I be if I haven't heard anything from Skadden yet? How late should I assume that I won't be getting any sort of prelim interview?
Thanks to you and to everyone giving advice here.
I don't know why you should be worried -- the chances of you getting an interview in the first place is pretty low. Sit back and relax -- if it comes it'll come. For the latter question, I'd say late February.

I applied to some firms on December 1 but also some after the new year. The only firm I’ve heard back from is an Alston & Bird screener. Anybody progress for any one else? Does this region usually wait for grades? I go to a T-10 and I have pretty solid ties to both markets for what it’s worth.
Still wondering about this.
