Cashing out vacation days

I'm planning to lateral from my NY biglaw firm to another-- does anyone know if it is typical for remaining vacation days to be cashed out? TIA

A bunch of states require that it be cashed out. Not sure about NY. And in the states that do not require it be cashed out, some companies have policies regarding whether they will cash it out.

Make sure you actually have vacation days. Some firms (mine included) have "unlimited vacation". Firms like these do not cash you out because there are no vacation days to accrue.

Should be in your employee policy handbook, my firm definitely pays out vacation up to a cap.

Is there a reason you aren't taking all of the days before leaving? May as well enjoy the paid downtime IMO unless you are starting your next job with literally zero break in between.

A lot of places allow you to accrue vacation while on vacation. This means you get more time off/money taking vacation than you do just getting paid out. OP should def take a long ass break if he can.

If your firm has an unlimited vacation policy (many do), then you won't get any vacation days paid out.

Thanks, guys-- I (OP) checked the attorney handbook and it looks like I can get cash for up to 10 accrued days.
