Vacation for a 1st year associate

I'm an incoming 1st year associate. My best friend will get married in Europe around Christmas time. Would it be acceptable for me to take some time off to go to the wedding? I will be in corporate, so hopefully things are slow during Christmas?? How should I approach this issue?

No harm in asking. Depending on the group/firm though, there might be some sort of lottery and/or seniority based system for vacations around the holidays though.

Should be an easy slam dunk. I have one friend at a NY firm who tried to book it off and was denied (complete with passive aggressive response that the partner had never even considered that a stub year associate would even think to ask), but everyone else I know who wanted vacation (including me) took it no problem.
