Was referring to the former.
The latter is a power move.

my first day in the new office is actually on a Friday (weird, I know). Office is located in Boise Idaho. What should I wear?

Dude, wear a suit the first day, and after a few days if you see people wearing something else, wear that.ballouttacontrol wrote:my first day in the new office is actually on a Friday (weird, I know). Office is located in Boise Idaho. What should I wear?

Just to be clear, what he is saying is put on the suit, wear it for multiple days, and don't change out of it until you're really sure it's ok not to wear it.Pragmatic Gun wrote:Dude, wear a suit the first day, and after a few days if you see people wearing something else, wear that.ballouttacontrol wrote:my first day in the new office is actually on a Friday (weird, I know). I was just gonna go with a button down/slacks. Do I really need to wear a suit first day?BigZuck wrote:Just to be clear, what he is saying is put on the suit, wear it for multiple days, and don't change out of it until you're really sure it's ok not to wear it.Pragmatic Gun wrote:Dude, wear a suit the first day, and after a few days if you see people wearing something else, wear that.ballouttacontrol wrote:my first day in the new office is actually on a Friday (weird, I know). But more seriously, if you don't know the culture, I think the consensus is that it's better to err on the side of being overdressed for a few days.

if you just have one suit do you just keep wearing it for a couple of day or is this worse than just switching to shirt/slacks?

Re: First Day Clothes/Beard
If you work at a firm that requires you to wear a suit every day (i.e., not just the first day), then you should get more than one suit. Actually, you should get more than one suit regardless.Anonymous User wrote:if you just have one suit do you just keep wearing it for a couple of day or is this worse than just switching to shirt/slacks?
But if you work at a business casual-firm and end up having to wear a suit for two days in a row for some reason, it's fine to wear the same suit. Just change up the tie and/or color of your shirt. Not a big deal.

i should have mentioned that the first Friday is actually just an intro brunch held at a local potato farm for all the new hires. would you still recommend suit?BigZuck wrote:Just to be clear, what he is saying is put on the suit, wear it for multiple days, and don't change out of it until you're really sure it's ok not to wear it.Pragmatic Gun wrote:Dude, wear a suit the first day, and after a few days if you see people wearing something else, wear that.ballouttacontrol wrote:my first day in the new office is actually on a Friday (weird, I know). Always wear a suit on the first day unless you're informed of the dress code. nobody's gonna laugh at you for being slightly overdressed--they've all been there and done that (even for laterals and not just fresh-faced lawyers). OTOH, if you still don't get a feel for the dress atmosphere by like the third or fourth day, joke's on you.

Re: First Day Clothes/Beard
So, I am going to wear the following for my first day of SA:
Black suit, black shirt, no tie, no socks
Hello Kitty backpack
Allen Edmonds or Yeezy's
while I eat Cheezits that induce severe coughing fits.
Does that sound like everything will work out fine?
