How is the salary calculated until sworn in?

Postby Anonymous User » Sat Mar 18, 2017 5:09 pm

In a small/mid-sized firm, how is the salary decided between after you graduated and until you are sworn in?

Law clerk or even below paralegal rates? (like $20~30/h)?

The firm I am interviewing is trying to lowball. I recently graduated and have no job lined up.

"It depends"

Location, type of work, size of firm, attorney salary, etc.

Ok, small firm I work at during school year paid the associate 18/hr pre passage. 60k to start.

A friend is starting at midlaw firm, gets paid full salary pre bar. 100k.

Another friend has job, but doesn't get to start til bar passage. 70k once s/he starts.

All in a major non NYC city. Helpful?

If the firm is trying to low ball that much you should consider not taking the offer. If they low ball you from the get go, this could be the story of your entire time at the firm.
