The Skadden/Cornell thing I find harder to explain. I know Skadden usually doesn't take many from Cornell, but I think many of the S&C/Cravath kids had Skadden offers and simply shy away from Skadden. I know the same argument can be made to many firms, but my impression is the elite Cornell kids almost blindly favor Cravath over Skadden.
Interestingly, Cleary took a ton of Cornell kids last year.
Cornell 3L here:
The partners who come to Cornell from Cravath are really, really good at what they do with respect to selling students on the "culture" of the firm.
The Skadden reputation at Cornell is ...not great to say the least. Skadden does give out a fair # of CBs, but many students turn down offers from them each year due to "sweatshop" rumors passed down from upperclassmen who have never worked there (whether true or not, idk).
