As someone at a T14 with near top 10% grades and LR, I can tell you that it does not guarantee you a job. Especially if you are aiming for a non-NY/DC legal market.lawlorbust wrote:Lol, wtf? No one is taking issue with 1styearlateral's statement that going to a T14 does not guarantee you a job. Of course that's right. Folks are disputing this part: "going to a higher ranked school and doing well only marginally increases your odds." Of course that's wrong.Anonymous User wrote:As someone at a T14 with near top 10% grades and LR, I can tell you that it does not guarantee you a job. So then what, all these T14 2Ls on here QQing and posting "Should I give up?" and "Am I doomed?" are the outliers? I suppose that those who obtained employment for next summer have no reason to post anything (except those few who liked to brag) and thus don't give us a good representation of the overall numbers, but damn there still seems to be a lot of people who didn't secure employment. Even so compared to my TTT.rpupkin wrote:No one is taking issue with 1styearlateral's statement that going to a T14 does not guarantee you a job. Of course that's right. My point was that blaming others because "They Said" OP would get a job if OP did xyz is total nonsense. If you went to law school because someone told you you'd be making six figures when you graduated, the joke is on you. IMO, no one is interested in listening to your whining. "Go MM," as they say.

Re: They Said...
TLS is not at all statistically representative of anything, though. It's possible for anyone from any school to strike out, but the statistics make pretty clear that it's much less common at the T14 than at other schools. Just because more people come onto TLS to talk about striking out doesn't make it more common over all.
Plus it's still not yet quite September. No one knows yet if they've struck out. They're anxious (which is fine) but they don't know anything.

Uh, yeah. That's exactly what they are if they had good grades. Part of the reason they are so distressed is that most of the peers have offers.1styearlateral wrote: So then what, all these T14 2Ls on here QQing and posting "Should I give up?" and "Am I doomed?" are the outliers?

Re: They Said...
Yes - they are definitely outliers. As a rising 2L at a lower T14 at median, I was able to secure more than a half dozen callbacks through OCI and a handful of offers. Amongst my classmates, that seems to be the norm, not the exception.1styearlateral wrote: So then what, all these T14 2Ls on here QQing and posting "Should I give up?" and "Am I doomed?" are the outliers?

2L at a T-14 here.
A T-14 does not simply give you "marginally" better opportunities. The difference between a T-14 and a T-20 is almost night and day. Just take a look at Law School Transparency stats.
With that said, you can have LR and Top 10% from HYS and still strike out. OCI is almost all about personality. I know people at the Bottom 10% of my class with multiple offers and also people at the Top 10% with no callbacks. Looking back, 1Ls would be better off taking a full time "interviewing course" or working with a professional coach, rather than gunning all day. (I'm not saying having good grades doesn't help, it helps alot. But at the end of the day, the goal of big law can be secured with sub-par grades).
