I knew this was going to happen. They had less than half that number last year. It's not like the market has improved *that* much. That really sucks for the summers affected.

They hired 23 SA's this year from U of C alone for their Chicago office.

Wtf were they thinking? Aren't their class sizes usually in the low 30's?

Chicago summer at Sidley here -- everything in this thread has been made up. Nobody hears about offers until next week for the Chicago office (good or bad). Y'all need to calm down with the anonymous & inaccurate trashing of firms during recruiting season.

That's why I never said how many no offers. A partner told a summer they are not offering the entire class. If they were you would have heard already.

If it turns out to be one or two, then maybe no big deal. If it's five to ten, that's a really bad look for Sidley.

Lol, okay, so you have no idea what you're talking about. Last several years they've offered the whole class and every year they have been told of offers several days after the program ended. If you have real information then share it. But, you have some weird stuff you heard from someone who doesn't known one way or the other.

Last year they offered the class all together before they finished for the summer.

If I'm wrong about this year definitely report back.

Second Sidley Chicago summer chiming in here to confirm you are all wrong. Not all summers have finished the summer program yet. Different start and end dates make for delayed offers for the large group that just ended.

I'm not sure what the different start and end dates have to do with anything.

Last year Kirkland Sidley and Skadden in Chicago (could be more those are just the ones I remember) made offers to the entire class during the last week or so, before the summer program ended. Kirkland just did that yesterday for their summer class. If your class was getting 100% offers you would know by now.

The question will be how many are no offered. If it's one weirdo it won't be a big thing. But Sidley hired a metric fuckton of SAs this year for some reason. I think there's a chance that and the 180k raises could have something to do with the lack of 100% offers.

About time somebody separated the wheat from the chaff. More firms should adopt this model to maximize profits. If you need 40 people there should be at least 80 SA's. There is no shortage of law students. Guaranteeing someone a job based on one year of law school grades is buffoonish. Firms should see who performs best 2L and over the summer. Last thing the firm needs is a person burnt out from 1L. You need hungry people to bill 2,300 hours. Determine who is the hungriest. Business 101
