So, we're almost halfway through interviews. Good luck to anyone still waiting to interview. Anyone else finding it harder and harder to concentrate as we wait for hiring decisions in November?

Do we think November is the timeline? I was told by the component I interviewed with not to expect any decision prior to the first week of December. But maybe they always say that and then decisions come earlier?

If I remember correctly, ENRD said they'd be notifying around Thanksgiving. But I'm sure this, like everything else, varies by component.

Timeline can vary a little. In past years a LOT of components made offers right around Thanksgiving. I think EOIR usually takes a little longer because they have so many people to match up with locations. And of course if it wasn't EOIR and they said December then obviously go by what they said. But I think at least some components should be in November. (Also, Deana usually posts updates saying when offers are coming.)

For those interviewing with the U.S. Trustee, did you all get an email asking for location preference prior to your interview?

Just a friendly reminder to update your information as interviews progress.

1. Generate a single User ID on Sheet 1. Include whatever background/personal information you feel comfortable with.

2. Using the same User ID you created on Sheet 1, complete the information on Sheet 2 for each different component you applied to.

This is helpful because different components are not necessarily on the same timeline.

I have not received an email yet, but my interview with UST is not until next week. What cities were given as options?

I'm really banking on getting something before thanksgiving. It's going to be a slow couple of weeks at work, which gives me plenty of time to over-analyze every single thing about my interview. Someone read me some damn tea leaves!

I read something into every minute my references aren't checked.

One of the components I applied to (CRT) called my refs before I even interviewed -- almost a week prior. I know this because I answered the phone when they called my current office to speak to my supervisor and my other refs emailed me. Is this typical for CRT? Not sure what, if anything, to take from that.

Does anyone know if reference checks for Civil are centralized? Or, if an applicant interviewed with multiple components, would references potentially be called multiple times? Wondering if a busy/ impatient judge listed might field multiple calls.... :|

To give a sense of the possible timeline, here's what happened the past couple of years:

2015-2016 cycle:
    Interview period: Oct. 26 – Nov. 13
Internal deadline for Divisions to select finalists: Nov. 24
Avue “Finalist” status changes: Nov. 18-24
First TLS announced offer: Nov. 20 (CIV)
2014-2015 cycle:
    Interview period: Oct. 20 – Nov. 7
Internal deadline for Divisions to select finalists: Nov. 19
Avue “Finalist” status changes: Nov. 17-19 (on Nov. 13 NSD announced that they had begun selecting finalists)
First TLS announced offers: Nov. 14 (NSD), Nov. 17 (CRM, ATR, OIL)

So really, if this year is anything like the past two, we could start to see offers happen within a week or two after the interview period ends next Friday.

Wondering if this is common or a good sign:

During one of my component interviews, the interviewers said that if I needed to know my status early because I had another offer pending, I could call them and they could let me know if I made the list. Wondering if that means they intend to select me and don't want me to accept another offer in the meantime, or if that's just basic professional courtesy.

Not to be a downer, but every year there's at least a couple of people who post here that they have a deadline and what should they do. So I think it's pretty likely to be something they say as professional courtesy because it's come up before, rather than a sign that you've been picked already.

As the above poster said, it's 100% a professional courtesy. I interviewed w/ two components early in the interview period and was told this. Doubt they were so sure of hiring me before interviewing the vast majority of other candidates.

Practical travel question here: Do you just bring your travel voucher to the airport? Does the airline accept that?

Did you not get an itinerary with flights booked and a record locator? My itinerary had the record locator and I was able to plug it into the airline app. Assuming it works like other flights, I'll get my boarding pass once I check in.

Yes sorry I meant itinerary, not voucher. Not sure what you mean by record locater, but I have a confirmation code so I'll try that. Thanks!

My airline's "record locator" must be equivalent to your confirmation number. I got my actual ticket earlier this week, but the record locator was consistently the same.

Question for anyone wearing a skirt suit or dress suit to their interview, did you wear nylons (pantyhose)? I am from the west coast and we are not that formal, even for big law interviews I didn't wear them. My law school career counseling department suggested I wear them so any insight would be appreciated. Interviewing with ENRD if that matters.

Does "finalist" mean you're selected, pending your references checking out and HR approval?

No, no. I just saw some projected dates for components announcing "finalists" and I wasn't sure if that meant selectees or if there is a second round of cuts they do internally.

Where did you see those dates?

Edit: to answer your original question, "finalist" means that you're either selected or an alternate. If it's the former, most components reach out w/in 24-48 hours of your status changing.

A finalist is an online status that means you're under consideration for an offer. Some finalists get offers right away, some are alternates and may never get an offer.

Yeah, each component has to get central approval from EARM before they can make an offer to anyone. "Finalists" are the people the component submitted to EARM and EARM has approved for offers. For some components they all get offers, for some (notoriously EOIR) they don't.
