Ocij offer on Monday. Not one of my preferred locations. But I'm very happy. Going to accept.

Congrats to those of you getting offers.

Here's some unrequested advice regarding location: I got a non-DOJ job in a place I knew very little about. I moved because of the offer and I don't regret it one bit. I actually see myself here long term.

Additionally, one of the benefits of federal service is that the Feds are everywhere. So maybe not right away, but if you eventually want to move to a different place, you should be able to.

Good luck to those still waiting, and happy new year!

Congrats! Do you think you were an alternate, or did you think this was still a first round offer?

Definitely an alternate. I was told that the position had already been turned down.

Definitely, I think we should start a OCIJ Facebook as well.

OCIJ finalist here. Spoke with Celia today and she said first round offers are definitely out, and the alternate list is very long. My references haven't even been called so I suspect I'm near the bottom of the list. Bummer.

Thanks for sharing. I'm ready to move on from this because it doesn't look like I can expect much from waiting.

Question for folks who have accepted offers: what is your plan for studying for and taking the bar? Barbri/Themis? Self study? This shit is expensive.

I'm clerking so I took the bar last summer. Used Themis and passed NY and generally recommend it. Since no one here is getting reimbursed I recommend spending as little money as possible. Everyone I know who shelled out for Barbri regretted it. Not only did it cost five times as much but they were put through way more stress than necessary.

Anyway if check out the bar prep threads for this.

Hi, does anyone know how long the training in Washington D.C. is for OCIJ hires and when it will be for those who are starting in Sept. 2016. Also, when is the start date of the position in relation to this because I will be relocating from my current state to my OCIJ position and was wondering how close in time I will have from the training in D.C. to make the move to my assigned location. Thanks!

I have not been contacted about drug testing yet but did receive an email looking for additional information about something. Has this happened to anyone else yet or has anyone heard anything yet about getting their clearance?

What do you mean by "getting their clearance" ? I started in the Honors Program in fall 2015 and still haven't been told that I passed the background check.

Start date is prob 9/13, but this may vary by location. You will be at your main location for at least 1 week before training, but the training dates vary each year. Mine was in October, and the year before was in September. I was told the exact dates at some point in the summer when Celia sent out forms to be completed. Training is 1 week long, but Mon and Fri are reserved for travel.

They say in the letter when you get your initial paperwork and fingerprint cards that they will check all your references, credit history, criminal history, and interview jobs etc. and sometimes offers would be revoked based on this. So I am assuming you need to pass the background check and get drug tested to start working I just assumed you would receive notification that everything went smoothly and you "passed."

Basically if there are no problems you get contacted about a start date. You don't get any official notification that you "passed."

Did anyone get an email from DOJ asking to fill out another form (OARM-1B)?

Yes, I did. Mine had the same language but was called "OARM 1". Not sure why this wasn't included in the first round of required documents.

Does the "temporary appointment" language mean we may be ineligible for certain benefits if we are not yet "permanent"?

The only benefit you don't get is the DOJ form of LRAP

Does anyone know how OCIJ attorney advisors are classified when looking for post-clerkship federal government jobs? Do those two years count towards the three years to become a status applicant?

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
