How do you know they're preselects?

Extremely disappointed with how things turned out. I got 17 interviews, but it looks like a lot of preselects from my lower-ranked firms (9 of bottom 20) bumped out the firms I really wanted (only got 1 of top 5, 2 of top 10).

Guess I'll have to do some backchanneling and let them know I got GLJ...

They're firms that get bid pretty heavily and are below 30.

Got firms I wanted (7 out of my top 10) but only got 10 firms total! Yikes.

Does it seem like this year has less interviews on average than last year?

I'm booked full August 10th and 11th, but only one on the 12th. Got 12 total; 1-6, 8-10, 12-13, 24.

Yep, 10 spread throughout 3 days. Only 1 on the 12th.

I have 8 on the 11th...odds of me burning out before noon are depressingly high.

When emailing firms we didn't get screeners with, do we need a resume/transcript/cover letter combo or is just a resume sufficient?

Top 5%. Got 16/30 interviews. Happy I didn't go with 50 bids; I got quite a few interviews from lower ranked firms on my list i assume were preselects.

It does seem like many more people had 18 last year.

I have 9 on Tuesday. The odds of me mixing up firms at least once are about 99.99%.

Scored 11 all in, 2 of which are OCS fuckups* and auto-cancels, so I'm feeling righteously fucked with 9 screeners.

*First one was a bid that OCS promised to rescind after a pre-oci interview came through immediately after bidding closed. Needless to say, they failed to follow through, so i wasted a top bid and missed out on most everything ranked #6 or lower.

**Second one is an interview assigned to the wrong city. Double and triple checked my bid list to avoid exactly that, so I have a bad feeling OCS was doing some hand tweaking and made a royal mess. It's cool, not like there are any suicide-inducing consequences or anything.

IP backbround: Yes/No

Type of work sought: Corporate/Litigation/Doesn't matter

Got 18 but I definitely should've taken the advice to not use all my bids. Got one firm that I bid 47th on and another 26th so I assume those are my preselects. Very NY-heavy list so I guess it's time to MM the ones I didn't get from DC. Probably should've been more aggressive.

In last year's thread, people said some firms they didn't get emailed them to schedule an interview--when would emails like that typically go out? Today? Tomorrow?

I can confirm that one V10 firm's DC office has already sent out emails to people who didn't quite make the EIW cut about scheduling extra interviews. I plan on contacting all of the high ones I've missed out on today, I'd rather be proactive than wait and see who emails me first.

No need for a transcript. If you bid them then they have it already. A cover letter seems unnecessary, but a current resume (with updated rankings or journal info) couldn't hurt. Worst case if you're paranoid about it attach an electronic version of your transcript anyway - it doesn't hurt anything.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?
