The acceptance letter from my exclusive journal literally said as much. I guess it's just more opportunities for publication?

Is it acceptable to use your casenote as your writing sample? I'm really hesitant to use my appellate brief b/c it was below median, and my employer isn't allowing me to submit work product.

Also curious about writing samples; I have a number of non-standard documents that I've produced this summer and am curious what some might think would make for a good writing sample. For example, a memo that analyzes one statute without really any case law, or a memo that outlines possible claims a client has against a particular party that also is light on case law.

Also a rising 2L, so I have no real insight. But, isn't the TLS wisdom that employers hardly look at the writing sample anyways? In which case, I would think that an edited LARW appellate brief for which we were coached through the structure, etc. would come off as a better sample upon a quick skim regardless of where it fell on the rather tight LARW curve.

My thinking exactly. I feel like CSO put a lot of emphasis on getting a writing sample from your summer employer, but with work product concerns + the fact that, as stated above, our appellate brief was reviewed and edited, I think that's the move.

This might be somewhat silly/off topic, but people put journals on their resume even if they haven't actually started working on it right?

My career counselor just told me to put my journal under "Honors" since it's an exclusive. It sounds weird since it's non-DLJ, but I do what I'm told.

Seems pretty odd to me. I put mine under activities.

How do I become a career counselor at a law school? That job seems cushy af. Don't have to do anything except give speculative, bad advice.

When I came into law school I thought it was weird that so many JDs ended up working in the law school back-end. And then I realized: it's actually the dream.

Even for DLJ, I don't think it should go under "Honors." Yes, it is an honor, but its an honor only in as much as prestige/exclusivity is derived from participating in the activity. Regardless of journal, I think they all should go under "Activities" because that's what they are. CS don't know shiiit.

I'm putting mine under Honors. I want it as close to the top of the resume as possible. Highlight whatever you can that helps you out. In my case, don't look at my GPA! Can I interest you in DLJ instead?

Bump from obscurity. In case any of you are chilling around, if any Duke 3Ls or beyond feel like anonymously posting their bid lists and hits/misses from past years, I'm sure we'd all love you for it. The previous years' topics are pretty light on this sort of data, but it's among the most useful information as we finalize bid lists.

When will we know which interviews we landed from bidding?

The OCI page in Symplicity lists important dates that imply approximately when we'll know:

Important Dates
Bidding Jul 20, 12:00 pm to Jul 27, 12:00 pm
Class Schedules/Conflicts Review May 29, 12:00 pm to Jul 27, 12:00 pm
Waitlist Review Jul 29, 12:00 pm to Jul 31, 12:00 pm
Cancellations Jul 29, 12:00 pm to Jul 31, 12:00 pm
Resume Review Jul 29, 12:00 pm to Jul 31, 12:00 pm
Open Sign-Up Aug 01, 12:00 pm to Aug 02, 12:00 pm

So between July 27 and July 29 at noon, I would think, or in any case, before August 1.

In a related question, what happens during the waitlist review period? I'm assuming this means we can sign up for interviews for which we are waitlisted in the first period and then sign up for any remaining open interviews for which we were not initially waitlisted in the period that follows. Just wanted to double check that this is accurate.

Also would appreciate a bid list review and/or swap from anyone so inclined, feel free to PM me. Thanks!
