How do people seem to be faring this year? I realize it's a little early to tell but did most people seem to get CBs or at least 1 offer from mid-to-big? Asking around it seems that a lot of people I knew had at least a few CBs, but that is a small selection obviously.

What exactly does everyone mean when they say mid-size firm or big law/big tex? I don't remember what was considered big law

Take Jackson walker, which I would say is big tex, pays market, 350~ attorneys, but only has offices in texas as far as I know, vs. V&E, which I would say is big law, pays market but has offices in several states/other countries. This isn't a hard line and probably some blurriness around edges.

I would say mid-sized firms are probably firms with 75-250 attorneys, usually more than one office, but not anywhere out of state. These aren't necessarily inferior to biglaw as many boutiques can fall into this, might pay anywhere from market (160) to 120 or so, and usually have better chances at partnership. Biglaw/big tex will usually have better exit and lateral opportunities I would assume though.

FWIW, I'm UT '15 and for comparison's sake I'd guess maybe as much as 40% got something out of OCI (mid or big law) and another 30% got SOMETHING decent (as in, private practice or government or clerkship) on their own before graduation. Obviously this is a VERY rough guess based on 1) people I personally know, 2) classmates' Linkedin profiles. I know a bunch of median/below median folks with big law offers (myself included). Contrary to what anyone else says, OCI is just the first inning of the ballgame (at least for a school like UT). Keep your chin up if you haven't landed something yet. I know people who kept hustling and landed awesome mid/big law gigs halfway through 3L or even later.

Various reasons for "overachieving" your GPA at OCI include: 1) URM status, 2) prestigious undergrad, 3) previous legal experience (e.g. paralegal at big firm), 4) valuable undergrad degree (e.g. finance/business from McCombs), 5) law review (write on, obviously), 6) hard IP, 7) language ability, 8 ) exceptionally attractive, 9) moot/mock trial achievements, 10) charm-their-pants-off interviewing skills.

Sorry if this is all entirely obviously, but the point is you are more than your GPA/rank.

"exceptionally attractive" ha. I could see being unattractive a definite hindrance but does being really really ridiculously good looking actually help overcome grades?
