Guy joined up the day this thread started, has only posted in this thread, cannot write all that well (certainly not persuasively), mixes up names of things while still stubbornly insisting he can offer advice, and last but not least, will NOT let the "negotiate" thing go.

EDIT: Just saw the line about no Journal for SCOUTS clerk... mmhmm, and I have a great beachfront lot in Arizona I will sell you too.
They published in our journal but weren't on it. Also you'd be surprised who gets feeders these days. People at HYS have worked for feeders before in some capacity or have worked on the hill and those people will make calls for them or they are simply married to someone who has a lot of clout or born into it. You act like no one gets feeders or scotus without connections and that's it is a meritocracy.
On the contrary, people who get feeders DO have connections. Just not the kind of connections that you're talking about.

I'm not following. You realize my universe is limited. I'm just saying that I was surprised people who got feeders weren't really chosen fairly. what connections are you talking about?

This I actually am qualified, by your standards, to address. I will be clerking for a circuit judge next year and several of my law school friends clerked for feeders.

Why wouldn't you try? Anyway, my gigs are fine for what I'm pursuing but some people out of business schools have better options. I wish I could be guaranteed some of the salaries my friends are getting. There is a reason people pursue hf/pe: they pay a boatload and people generally like the work they do there.

Ok, well I am happy for you on that account. What connections are you talking about other than law school profs?

Law school profs are basically what I'm talking about. This is how people generally get feeder clerkships (or any circuit clerkship, honestly).

True for the majority. I've seen enough counter examples to leave a bad taste in my mouth.

For what it's worth, I know two such people. Seriously.

I believe you, but I'm really shocked honestly.

Didn't you start out saying people shouldn't go into biglaw at all because of all the sweet non-law options and why weren't people taking advantage of them?

Yep. I still stand by that as the first priority if you're going into trans biglaw just for $$$ and you know you're leaving.

Of course if they can't get that, then negotiate is my second recommendation
