they are a thing but the odds are not great. i was all NY back in the day, and if i didnt hear within 48 hours i never got a callback. i know of some who did but it wasn't super common. in secondary/tertiary markets, it might be a little more likely, not sure.

alternative question, what's the longest between a screener and a cb in secondary markets? 3 of my cbs have been 8-9 days after the screener.

Re: 2015 University of Virginia OGI Thread
the secondary market i targeted doesn't (well, didn't) interview at UVA's OGI, but at schools they do screen at i've heard of 2 weeks or more between screener and CB. i just went into my gmail account to check some dates and i had a phone screener with one firm on 8/28 and they didn't say a damn thing about a callback before 9/9, when i bugged them into giving me one. one of the firms i didn't screen with but got a CB from also didn't say a damn thing until 9/9. who knows how long either firm would have waited - the only reason the ball moved on 9/9 is because i called them both when a different firm booked me for a callback in the market and they squeezed me in.
(by the way, part of the delay might just be that you're not dealing with quite so well oiled machines at some firms in secondaries. the recruiter of the original firm that booked me for the CB that led me to make those calls cancelled that CB after i had booked that flight but before the other two firms got back to me, although the recruiter "wanted to reschedule it whenever i could fly out again soon - we just can't interview on that day". that was not one of the top 20,000 hours i spent as a law student. the other firms there largely had their shit together, though, by all appearances.)

I feel pretty misled with the no news is good news refrain. because yeah, no news is good news up until a point, but after awhile all it means is no news is you haven't gotten the rejection yet, but it is increasingly likely as time goes on. I don't think that was made explicit.

I mean, if knowing that no news probably means a ding is coming, would that really have changed your strategy?Anonymous User wrote:I feel pretty misled with the no news is good news refrain. because yeah, no news is good news up until a point, but after awhile all it means is no news is you haven't gotten the rejection yet, but it is increasingly likely as time goes on. Tough time for major markets when you're in the bottom 20%, especially when the rest is all pretty average too. A lot of luck involved as the firms where you aren't below the grade cutoff usually have tiny SA classes.Anonymous User wrote:yeah there has not been much action ITT. id love to know how everyone feels about OGIs as we close in towards the end of it...

Can't really tell--are you speaking about yourself or just what is the likely general outcome for students?Anonymous User wrote:Tough time for major markets when you're in the bottom 20%, especially when the rest is all pretty average too. 1 DC call back, 1 NOVA callback, 1 Richmond callback, and 1 DE callback...

I guess UVA employment is not as strong as you would think.. or at least as strong as they sell their student on.

DC is a really tough market, it's just really, really competitive.

I think overall, we will see statistics bear out that this year was better than the last, but yes, I know some people who are hurting and there are no guarantees. Anyway, I think the game is far from over, keep hustling.Anonymous User wrote:I guess UVA employment is not as strong as you would think.. or at least as strong as they sell their student on.

DC is the most brutal, that's why you've got to diversify.

DC is not the only place that's rough. 3.36 here struggling with only 4 CBs as well (think East Coast and South). One call to a firm in my home market, though, and was almost offered on the spot (it's a little late in the game, and they have already extended offers).
Point: for anyone struggling, maybe time to hit the home market.
