So much for the redemptive monday morning. still at 2. I love how people pretend grades fucking matter. I should have spent more time learning to interview.

Re: NYU EIW Madness 2015
Not sure I agree with that. I've been told by everyone (career services, mock interviewers) that I'm a strong interviewer and that I'd be able to overcome my grades... I'm also at 2...So much for the redemptive monday morning. still at 2. I love how people pretend grades fucking matter. I should have spent more time learning to interview.

So what should we be doing to prepare for our callbacks? Just firm research and prepare some questions? Any advice on good questions to ask?

Grades do matter. I think it's super silly for people to think looks matter that much. Interview skills encompass confidence and poise which naturally goes to physical appearance but to say an attractive girl or guy gets more interviews than more accomplished peers is quite insulting and frankly not true. Go on the firms' sites and look at their lawyers..doesn't really scream Abercrombie and Fitch types does it?Anonymous User wrote:So much for the redemptive monday morning. still at 2. I do not want to get too off topic, but I feel like this should be said.Grades do matter. I think it's super silly for people to think looks matter that much. Interview skills encompass confidence and poise which naturally goes to physical appearance but to say an attractive girl or guy gets more interviews than more accomplished peers is quite insulting and frankly not true.
Appearance 100% matters, and I would bet that many people struggling with CBs can partially blame their appearance during EIW. I'm not talking about physical features - it's not like the tall, handsome guy is walking in and the interviewer is thinking "Damn, 10/10, so hot, would hire." However, in my opinion, I saw several people during EIW who did not look very "put together." I'm talking the girls and guys with wrinkly ill-fitting suits, disheveled hair, poorly tied ties, etc. More than once I was standing in the hall waiting to go into the interview and thought, "My God, you're going to walk into an interview looking like THAT?"
For your callbacks: DRY CLEAN YOUR SUITS. STYLE YOUR HAIR NICELY. MAKE SURE YOUR SHOES ARE NICE AND NOT SCUFFED. Like seriously, you don't need designer suits or anything, but you do need to be looking your best. Law is a 100% client-driven service, and no firm is going to want to hire someone who they can't send out to clients confidently. Because if you're not going to look amazing during the interview of all times, imagine what you'll look like on a random Tuesday. They want professional, confident people, not slobs who don't take care of themselves.
Maybe it's just me nitpicking. But step it up for callbacks.
