What do you mean by mass mailing? Are you unhappy with the CBs you have or looking for more opportunities outside of NY?

edit: read your post again and realized you probably meant you are going to start mailing to LA firms

It doesn't really work that way. If they like you, your grades are qualifying, and they have a callback to give, you'll get one. Once the minimum standard for grades has been met, the interview itself really takes over. (FWIW, I had no honors, didn't bid a single NY firm, and converted almost every interview to a callback.)

For those people who thought their interviews went really well, but you didn't get the callback, look back and try to see if they really went as well as you thought. One big thing I've learned over the years is that if you did the majority of the talking, you're more likely to think it went well, though that won't necessarily be true. If you gave packaged answers that got responses, but didn't really connect, it probably didn't go incredibly well. If you didn't learn something completely unrelated to your interviewer's job or resume, it probably didn't go well. Were they just going through their list of questions, or did the majority of the interview detour into a real conversation (be that law related or not)?

Evaluating your interviews like this instead of just waiting for callbacks that may or may not come will help you going forward.

Talking about politics is what definitely did me in during my Cad interview (ding) but got me a callback for Willkie. While it's a murky water to navigate generally, I realized the fatal flaws I made in Cad upon self reflection. Or, at least what I consider to be fatal flaws.

tl;dr: I couldn't agree more as to the value of self evaluating. It's often difficult to do but can pay dividends in the end.

Anyone heard from firms that interviewed yesterday (Mofo, Shearman, Vinson, etc.)?

Haven't heard from Shearman, Gibson, White & Case, or V&E. All NY.

If my sample size is at all representative, overall 2L employment from EIP is probably going to drop 20 percent.
It's not CLS's employment prospects. What you see on TLS is far from respresentative - people on here have 0 CB or 15 CBs. Don't panic, but do start mass mailing/talking to OCS/taking necessary actions.

I am happy with my CBs and grateful generally for what I have received, however, I struck out with all >V20 firms. While I realize vault is not the be-all and end-all, I think I would be remiss if I did not email the recruiting department of some of the >V20 firms where my initial bid was rejected. I also absolutely hated going into hospitality suites because it feels so forced, so I eschewed that much to my disadvantage.

Heard CBs last night from Simpson and PW, if that helps.

edit: both NY

Thanks for the elaboration, just trying to get a better feel for what everyone is doing at this point. Good luck.

Once you've gotten a CB, how much do grades continue to matter? IE if you got a CB somewhere you thought was out of your grade range, have you pretty much cleared the grade hurdle and now it's just about fit?

Who was your Simpson interviewer?

Not everyone posting here is "striking out." Things aren't going to be vary much from last year.

I'm 8 CBs out of 22 interviews so far (mostly NY but some foreign market interviews too). I'd concur that a lot of people aren't posting in here. Doubt the statistics will change much from last year re: success rate. Things will probably look very different on Friday or next Friday than many are realizing right now. Just keep on the grind, something will pan out.

IME a few firms still care, like Cravath.

Dinged by Cravath and Skadden. Pretty disappointed - low stone but thought my interviews went very well. Holding out hope for STB or PW.

But what about firms that aren't Cravath/WLRK but are still highly ranked? (K&E, Simpson, Debevoise, Proskauer)

I think your bottom line here that something will pan out is absolutely right. That said, it won't happen on its own.

Maybe the experience of this year's class will be different, and for all of your sake I hope it is, but the places you haven't heard back from yet are, at least in my experience with NYC firms, highly, highly likely to be dings at this stage. So I encourage everyone reading this who isn't comfortable with their number of callbacks to really hit the mass mailing hard today and tomorrow.

If you got the callback you're in good shape. Now go finish the job.

When everyone is saying mass mailing. Are you referring to firms that already dinged you? Or ones you did not interview with? Seems fairly futile and unprofessional to mail firms that already passed.

Yep. Every one that you have not interviewed with.

Starting mass mailing now, but are there any unwritten rules regarding when to email firms that were at EIP? Wait a few days, or just send apps now?

Are the people who got a lot of CBs finding you had mostly talked about things other than law/the law firm during those interviews? Did the interviewer talk more or less than you? This info may be most valuable from someone who got 6+ CBs but doesn't have exceptional grades or law review.
I got fewer CBs than anticipated and want to know what to do differently when I go into offices.

I don't have 6 CBs but i have a 3.08 and 5 CBs and don't even consider myself particularly successful with interviews since i have had plenty of duds and dings.

Its very hit or miss and dependent on the interviewer but most of my interviews were just about law/the firm/law school. I think the key is not the content of the convo, but the delivery (obviously content matters to the point that you don't say anything tactless). I try to smile, to laugh, sometimes be sarcastic, frank, and even self depreciating (despite the warning from career services to exude confidence and be fake). Tell little anecdotes about classes or law school experiences in the same way that you would tell your friends. You want to come off as a friendly relatable person who can make a conversation about boring law stuff fun. But thats just my 2 cents and like i said above, i don't consider myself a fantastic interviewer by any means.
