Does that mean secondary journal acceptances will be going out tomorrow?
Also does anyone ever get off the LR "waitlist" / do they notify you if you're on it?

I think I get what you're asking and I'm pretty sure all applications are graded at the same time?Anonymous User wrote:So secondary journals get to see all the applications even if they already made it onto LR? That kinda makes me uncomfortable. They do, but despite best efforts to anonymize the applications, you still will know who some people are. That's especially true if you really liked or disliked the application.

After I thought about it for a minute... Yeah it makes sense to look at them all at the same time.
Still, it feels uncomfortable having more eyes on your app materials than is necessary.

Re: Columbia EIP 2015
If you applied to them, why wouldn't the other journals see your information? Also, do you understand how much work it is to do something like four read-throughs of every application? (given that many secondaries get several hundred applications?) All of the selection stuff happens simultaneously. CLR just gets first pick.
You wouldn't get put on a journal until well after EIP if each journal had to wait for every student's preferred journals to decline before reading through applications. It all happens at once.
ETA: also just to disabuse you of the notion a bit more, on the upside, nobody really cares much about who you are, and if you followed instructions and anonymized your stuff properly, nobody should know who you are. With some of the applications I was talking about above (where we declined and CLR took the student) the applicant didn't bother following instructions. I cared about that. Apparently the CLR readers didn't or they were a lot more careful with that application.
On the downside, you're going to be asked invasive questions about your grades, where you're working, everything, for the rest of your time in law school. You just gotta deal with that, to an extent.

Sorry. Pretty sure they're done making offers. Take what JBB said about the arbitrariness of the process as TCR.When do LR ding emails go out?

Re: Columbia EIP 2015
Question about DC firms.
Are these firms in general more grade selective than NY firms? For example, is Arnold Porter DC more selective than Arnold Porter NY? Or is it more of the fact that DC firms are taking smaller summer classes and thus there's less of a chance of getting an offer?
As someone who is mid-stone (3.5-3.6), how reasonable is it to bid the DC offices of Sidley Austin, Arnold Porter, Boies, Jones Day, WilmerHale, and White & Case? Left out Covington and Williams & Connolly from my list.
Everything else I've bid is large class NYC.

To the guy asking about DC, yes, A&P DC is far more selective. I think Offers by Honors will confirm this pretty quickly. As for why, it's a function of the smaller class size mixed with DC having some certain highly desirable niche work. You want to go to DC, right? So do other law students with good grades. You can bid the above, but I'd advise you that Boies in particular will be hard, and WilmerHale isn't any easier than Covington.

Hoping for some last minute comments. Low stone poster from a few pages back, 2+ years strong/relevant WE, looking for NYC corporate. All bids NY. Will also have CBs at Weil and Freshfields outside of EIP.
Parentheses = difference from last year's FFB.
Thanks!

S&C and WLRK are totally wasted, I think.

Based on the experience of me and my friends, S&C will take low Stone. FWIW.

Re: Columbia EIP 2015
Maybe they are making more offers these days with the transactional market going nuts. But at least when we went through it they were making like 35 offers out of somewhere in the range of 130 Stone people. And we know they're grade selective.smaug wrote:Might have been true last year, wasn't true years prior, I don't think.Anonymous User wrote:Based on the experience of me and my friends, S&C will take low Stone. I'd replace it with Willkie but maybe I'm too conservative. Low stone gets dicey.

What happens if you don't get on a journal? There was some mention of opportunities to join journals later; do those exist?

Re: Columbia EIP 2015
I'm hoping for CBLR... But I'm not giving up hope just yet (only because someone else has hear). From prev years (cf. Google "site:top-law-schools.com columbia eip 201X") it seems like secondary journal notification rolled out over the course of 6-48 hours, at least for some of them. Contra the year that a CBLR mass email seems to have gone out.

To people who've heard back from secondaries: were the contacts personalized emails, phone calls, mass "bcc" emails, or other?

Heard back from CBLR. Can't be sure but it read like a mass bcc (no personalized information/greeting and seemed to be a generic congratulations email).Anonymous User wrote:To people who've heard back from secondaries: were the contacts personalized emails, phone calls, mass "bcc" emails, or other?

I got what seems like a mass bcc e-mail from CBLR. They promised calls later today and tomorrow.
