Regulation of the Anonymous Post Feature:
The anonymous post feature is meant for serious, legal employment-related questions that could reveal something about the poster to future employers. This can include information about grades, where a person has interviewed/received job offers, and other information that might identify them to future employers. The anonymous feature is not meant to be used as a shield for voicing unpopular opinions, demeaning others, sock puppetry, or otherwise being a jerk.

If you see a comment that you believe is misuse or abuse of the anon feature, please report it using the Report button on the lower-right corner of each post. This button, which appears as a red exclamation point, allows you to flag a post for moderator investigation.

Moderators may announce when they have taken action against a poster, but this is only for transparency, not to invite debate about the anon policy. Do NOT post in the thread itself about whether or not something violates the anon abuse policy; this is considered thread derailment and may get you banned as well. There are other places you can do this, such as PM or an appropriate Lounge thread such as this one: viewtopic.php?f=10&t=146657

Failure to follow any of these rules may result in being outed (even if your post contains sensitive information), and/or banned. The anon feature exists to foster on-topic discussion in this forum, not for repeated debate over the anon feature and the scope of its use. Please keep this in mind.

What's the etiquette? Do we just have to walk on egg shells until October break, basically?

Have to? No.

Should? Yes.

Is there a certain significance to October break for journals? Or was the above about callbacks/offers?

What was the purpose of ranking secondary journals if the one I ranked second was going to give me a decision anyway?

It's possible to get rejected by your first choice but accepted by your second choice. It's also possible to get accepted by both, and then your preference controls.

If you're prickly about getting the rejection, don't be. The people on law review got rejections from both of the non-law review journals.

He was referring to callbacks and offers. By then, the dust should have settled for almost everyone.

Got a rejection email from JLPP this morning after being accepted on LR. Is this just something that happens? I seem to remember reading about this in last year's AJF thread.

Getting the two rejections seems like over kill, and a bit unnecessary, but whatever. It doesn't really take anything away from making LR, if you got on it.

Getting the work-on emails is annoying though if you did get on any journal.

Work-on applications are due Monday.

I didn't complete the writing competition due to personal circumstances that I can't really discuss in an interview. I'm getting worried as AJF approaches.

Someone mentioned earlier that secondary journal membership won't appreciably affect your AJF chances. I have a 3.75 and an A+ in lawyering. Do you think I'm better off with "I wanted to focus on moot court and clinics," or potentially dealing with "you have decent grades and are supposedly good at writing. Why didn't you make law review?" Will also ask career services, but don't know if they can get back to me in time.

Also:

"Students who become members of the Journal by the work-on method have two additional responsibilities in order to elevate to full membership status beyond what is required of regular Associates. First, Work-On Associates must successfully complete any emergency editing assignments that the Executive Editor provides them. And secondly, Work-On Associates must successfully edit twice as many footnotes and accompanying text as regular Associates, during the second Associate assignment."

Ugh.

edited for concerned anon

it seems like a pain in the ass, but at least it doesn't seem overbearing. The Why Public Policy thing is a bit forced, though. Good luck anons.

Also, to anon #1; this is my gut feeling as a mere former 1L, but I think a) just have a good reason why no journal and b) i don't foresee employers using your lawyering performance against you for no journal - fwiw, my experience with journals and lawyering tells me that lawyering is not perfectly (or strongly) correlated or indicative of journal stuff. Certainly helps, but doubt it will be used against you. Additionally your grades are solid, which is far more important than anything else.

I know this is a random thing, but does anyone know when all the mastheads are going to go out? For LR, ILJ, and JLPP.

Depends on whether they go out individually like last year or all at once. LR and ILJ probably sometime this week. JLPP probably next week.

If you haven't received a rejection email from LR, but have received a secondary journal acceptance and a secondary journal rejection, does that mean you may be on the LR waitlist?
