Nobody can tell you that you will be screwed if you don't bid NY, but you are definitely not maximizing your chances, which is something you should be focusing on at median.

I bid DC only with good grades at a lower T14 (fine: the lowest T14 you pedants). It was a risky and stressful move that I only made because I have family, kids, and a mortgage here. Bidding on NY is the smart choice because there are so many jobs there - and at median you can't expect to land the best firms at smaller, choosier markets.

What percentage of my bids should I allocate to NY?

you don't have to use all your bids on NYC, but you should definitely mass mail every NYC firm you don't get at OCI

Agreed. I also had a good deal of success going to OCI about 30 minutes early and telling recruiters I was unable to get an interview through lottery but would like to interview nonetheless if a spot opened up or if they could fit me in. I picked up quite a few interviews that way.El Pollito wrote:you don't have to use all your bids on NYC, but you should definitely mass mail every NYC firm you don't get at OCI
