How often will we be asked for a writing sample? Very few of the firms I'm interviewing with require one, at least according to their Symplicity profiles. Is it generally the case that a writing sample will be requested even if it's not specified on a firm's Symplicity profile?

No, most firms don't want them. They don't have the time to read them. And most probably recognize that if they ask, they'll get some hyper polished result of a legal writing professor's edits.

It varies from the afternoon on the day you interview to several day later (and far longer in odd cases). Most will offer cbs within 72 hours.Anonymous User wrote:Mostly for older students. Let's say interview with Chicago and Detroit firms on Tuesday. In general what do time lines look like to hear if you got a cb?
Some firms do dinners for everyone who makes their GPA minimum, and you're basically still interviewing at the dinner. Other firms do dinners for those they're giving CBs to.

Word is that dinner offers are circulating, at least for NYC.

What is a dinner offer? Like...an intermediate stage between the screener and callback?

Gibson Dunn had a dinner reception tonight for select candidates – they are also planning on hosting one for students who interview tomorrow.
Latham CBs have also gone out (for NYC).

Re: Michigan OCI 2015
What does it mean when an interviewer says "You're going to have some nice options at the end of this process." or something similar? Is that like a consolation type thing saying 'well we're not interested but you'll have a shot elsewhere', or is it more saying that they are interested? Sorry, overthinking shit like this comes with being a law student.

To the best of my knowledge, DPW and K&E don't do same day CBs. So, tomorrow morning should probably be the earliest you start worrying about it.

Good luck everyone on OCI and congrats to those with callbacks/cb dinners.

It could be either, but we won't know because we didn't hear the tone. Most likely, it's just a conversational compliment and means nothing. That's especially the case if it was an associate that said it, but even interviewing partners don't make the decision who to CB alone.Anonymous User wrote:What does it mean when an interviewer says "You're going to have some nice options at the end of this process." or something similar? Are these "you're getting a callback" dinner invites or "we're on the fence about you" dinner invites?Anonymous User wrote:any updates?

Re: Michigan OCI 2015
Quite sure they're "you're 80%+ likely to get a callback" invites. But GDC have been known to offer CBs to people who were not invited to the dinners and vice versa.Anonymous User wrote:Are these "you're getting a callback" dinner invites or "we're on the fence about you" dinner invites?Anonymous User wrote:any updates?
