It means you won't get a UBE score by taking the NY bar exam.

If I were someone taking the NY bar this summer WITHOUT a NYC job lined up and little to no ties in NY, I'd actually quickly switch and take the exam in a UBE state this year and focus on that market.

Because if you don't have a NYC job out of OCI, you may spend 1-2 years looking for a job anyway. If you go with my plan, you'll be bar-eligible in like 15 other states, and then be able to be barred in NY by 2016--without having to take 2 bar exams.

Yes, you'll have to eat your NY bar exam fee this year, but it's actually not that high compared to other states, and you may have to pay for two bar exams anyway if you don't get a UBE score this time but want one (which you probably will want, because you're probably fucked already if you don't have a job lined up).

The good news is that the New York Bar Exam will be one of the easiest bars from which to earn a passing grade under the UBE.

New York will be tied for 11th hardest UBE jurisdiction out of the 15 or 16 UBE states.
(Currently New York ranks, alongside 4 other jurisdictions, as the 30th most difficult bar exam.)

New York's proposed & recommended UBE passing grade is 266. This is the same as Kansas, and above the grades required by Minnesota, Missouri, North Dakota & Alabama.

Does anyone know whether or not New York State Bar will accept UBE scores retroactively ?
