Yesterday I passed another summer while walking to the elevator banks at 5:03
He said to me: "You're leaving? So early?"
No offer?

My old job gave me a lot of substantive work, and my SA is turning out to be the bullshittiest of research. I know this is the game, but it's harder to put up with than I anticipated. :/

Re: Summer Associate Class of 2015: Get on In
You don't even understand. I'm expected to get like FIVE to SIX "billable" hours per day of make-up work with no deadlines and no consequences, and somehow find time for all of this in between the free lunches and unending happy hours and dinner events! How am I supposed to survive the brutal gauntlet that is being a summer associate?El Pollito wrote:why is your highly paid make work hard to put up with?flawschoolkid wrote:My old job gave me a lot of substantive work, and my SA is turning out to be the bullshittiest of research. I mean, I can do it to a very high quality with a smile on my face and a high degree of professionalism. But I see the writing on the wall...

Biglaw is awful and I'm headed that way like a freight train. The job I actually want requires biglaw experience, obv isn't even a guarantee then.Jason Taverner wrote:what writing is that?flawschoolkid wrote:I mean, I can do it to a very high quality with a smile on my face and a high degree of professionalism. I mean I'm not going to agree or disagree re: biglaw being awful, but (1) are you surprised (2) do you think your 2-3 weeks as an SA really give you an insight into that and (3) if your complaint is primarily that you're given make-work, do you expect to be doing the exact same things when you start?flawschoolkid wrote:Biglaw is awful and I'm headed that way like a freight train. I think the more charitable way to put flaw's point is that if he's having a hard time with the cakewalk version of associate-dom, the real thing is going to suck even worse
It was phrased poorly in the initial post but I don't think that's a super objectionable thing to say

In all honesty the kool-aid at my firm is mad tempting. I've worked with lit associates for years and watched them slowly break themselves and flee biglaw, but the food, social events, and easy 'work' to date are just... Nice. Easy not to think about actual practice lifestyle down the road.

Re: Summer Associate Class of 2015: Get on In
The social events have been dope so far and the lifestyle/perk stuff for sure has its appeal, but I have a really hard time seeing this being sustainable if my SO were here. Not bad to get home after 8 when it's just me, but different story when someone's waiting. And I imagine an even shittier story when it's work keeping you there rather than getting drunk and shooting the shit with co-SAs.zacharus85 wrote:In all honesty the kool-aid at my firm is mad tempting.
