It has definitely been long enough for some striver in here to be putting in at least a half day on a weekend. Out with it so you can be shamed.

Sort of guilty - let the shaming commence. Although it's not so much legal work as it is just looking up history of prison gangs out of personal interest and for eventual use in pro bono case research. And I'm doing it at home when kids are napping.

Nah this is fine, or at least just par for the course for the characters who self select into law school. I'm looking for the bro who rolled into work this morning at 9 in a suit because that person definitely exists.

Oh man let's pelt that guy with eggs.

Someone in my cohort def left happy hour on Friday to go back and scan some things for a partner - BUT was at least tipsy while doing it so maybe less striver-ish than most.

Week 1 stats:

4 nights drunk
2 dinners
3 lunches
2 SA events (parties)
1 pro sports event

Dollar spent on meals/drinks: ~50 (went out once non firm event)

Hours billed on a weekend/before 10am/after 5:30 pm: lol

Week 1 was a total success. I really like my fellow summers and the attorneys I've Gotten to spend time with

I'll follow J9's format - let's get some stats rolling

Week 1 stats:

0 nights drunk (have to be on baby duty at night)
2 dinners
4 lunches
2 SA events (happy hours/drinks)
0 pro sports event or similar

Dollars spent on meals/drinks: 8 (copped fast food to bring back to my desk for lunch)

Hours billed on a weekend/before 10am/after 5:30 pm: 7-8. I do a fair amount in the morning and only once stayed after 5:30.

My fellow summers are pretty nice and the associates/partners all seem great too.

Week one

1 night drunk
1 dinner, but 3 breakfasts (early mornings for trainings)
3 lunches
1 SA event
0 pro sports event or similar, but those are planned for later

Dollars spent on meals/drinks: $45, got two lunches and one non-official happy hour

Hours billed on a weekend/before 10am/after 5:30 pm: a couple hours before 10 am, nothing after 5. Probably will do a couple hours this weekend just to make sure I meet my first two assignment deadlines this upcoming week.

Everyone seems cool.

Week 1 stats:

0 nights drunk (2 firm events had alcohol, but they were firmwide so I only had like 3 beers at each- no offer?)
2 dinners
2 lunches out, 3 lunches catered at the firm (1 was pizza- out the firm?)
2 breakfasts
1 planned SA event, 2 happy hours
0 pro sports event or similar

Dollars spent on meals/drinks: I spent like $125 last night on dinner/drinks with friends cuz YOLO

Hours billed on a weekend/before 10am/after 5:30 pm: 0. But most of this week was training, I guess that could change?

I really like the summers in my group and the associates/partners have seemed cool. Associates have been willing to take the time to sit down and explain what they do and what it would be like as a first year which I've really appreciated. I guess maybe it seems like a small thing but they could spend half an hour billing rather than offering to walk me through stuff and answer my dumb questions.

Week one

5/5 nights drunk
2 dinners; 4 breakfasts; 4 lunches paid for (got one with a group of SAs by ourselves.)
3 SA events
0 outside events yet (sports, concert etc.) - more to come

Dollars spent on meals/drinks: like, by myself? $8 lunc + $6 snacks from snack bar. How much did attorneys spend on my lunches total? ~$100-150

Hours billed on a weekend/before 10am/after 5:30 pm: 0. Takes a while to get into the groove but billed ~35 this week.

I love this firm.

2 breakfasts
2 lunches
3 coffee outings
2 nights drunk
2 SA events

I was assigned easy assignments all week. I love my firm. Only bad thing is that tax's took 1000 from my 3000 weekly pay check...

Thanks Obama...

In all seriousness - what did people take? Calculator said like 39 for me, but I'm guessing that's not kosher. I remember hearing something that 10+ triggered some kind of review or further paperwork - did anyone try this and run into that?

They changed the policy last(?) year. It's under IRS discretion now.
Fwiw I've heard of last year's people taking 30+. I personally did low 30s as well.

Week 1 stats (Non-NYC major market ftw):

5 nights drunk (1 firm reception that transitioned into happy hour, 3 impromptu happy hours with junior associates that were expensed to the firm [one of which ended in a night out until 12:30...and I died the next day] - many of these events included tequila shots...)
3 dinners
5 lunches out with $60/person budget...all summers ordering drinks at lunch by day 3
4 breakfasts (3 were full breakfasts, 1 was pastries/smoothie bar)
1 planned SA events (reception)
0 pro sports event or similar (but 2 next week)

Dollars spent on meals/drinks: $0 - was told I won't buy lunch a single day and I'm cool with it

Hours billed on a weekend/before 10am/after 5:30 pm: LOL GTFO

Week 1 in the books as of yesterday, feels good. Not a BL SA (smallish IP boutique) so I'm not getting a lot of free food/drinks or doing events like a lot of you (I did get 3 lunches paid for). However, I absolutely loved everything about the firm my first week. Everyone is cool, the work is interesting, the schedule is flexible, and I don't feel like I'm under pressure. I was unsure how likely this job was going to lead to full time employment going into it (despite the hiring partner saying it's likely) but all signs point in that direction based on the first week. Of course, I can't screw it up
