Wear a white v-neck with the words "NYC TO 190" under your tailored BB extra slim shirt.

I'm slowly turning this thread into fashion part 2, but what color dress shirts should we be going with? I was just going to do white everyday, but I think my firm is fairly formal.

Is suit first day TCR under "better to overdress than underdress" theory, even if I'm sure my firm is biz caj?

Not a guy, but I think if you wear a white shirt every day, people will think you either only own one shirt or you have a cartoon wardrobe.

I was planning on going suit first day, but also curious.
Looked at last year’s thread, which basically came to the conclusion after 10 pages that a suit is TCR because you can always take the jacket off. Then you can gauge what to wear after day 1 based on what others are wearing.

I'm going suit first day but like I said, I think they are pretty formal. I'm trying to remember interviewers at my CB, I think a lot of them had no ties. But hmm ok in re the Doug comment lol. Even if a firm is "formal" do you think it's useful to splurge for a few colored patterns?

And sumblime I have like the traditional blue shirt that people wear to like prom or whatever but I wasn't gonna wear it lol.

If money is a concern, I think it would be fine to wait until your first paycheck to go shopping. I think people (and by people I mean other SAs more than partners) would notice if you wear the same color shirt for 12 weeks straight, but are less likely after 2 (or however long it is until you get your first paycheck). But maybe this is a girl v. guy thing.

I'm pretty prole, but I guess what I'm saying is I thought "colorful patterns" were not formal, but rather formal = white. I'm gathering, however, that that is not the case.

On day one, I wore slacks and a gingham shirt with no tie and my sleeves rolled up. Unless instructed otherwise, you don't need to wear a suit and you certainly don't need to wear a white shirt rather than a patterned one.

My firm told us business attire for the first week (orientation) and biz casual for the rest. Does business attire mean I have to wear stockings?? #LegPrisons

With absolutely no regard for price, only looking at pattern, I saw all of the following or close variations of them. Occasional lavenders as well or whites/blues with subtle pink stripes. None looked out of place.

My firm was the formal end of business casual as well.

Wait, a light blue dress shirt is casual vs. a white one?

* I have heard that wearing a winchester collar (contrast collar) steps on toes bc it's reserved for BOSSES but a regular blue dress shirt? I've worked in a corporate setting before but not anywhere preftigious. Just curious. All my i-banking friends wear light blue almost by default - rarely white.

Arguments for and against undershirt at all? I'm not the biggest fan of undershirts but I don't see a problem with not wearing one as long as your dress shirt isn't see-through.

All depends on if/how much you sweat. If you are someone who is going to show pit stains then you really really should wear one. If not and as long as you aren't like showing nips through your shirt it doesn't really matter.

Light blue dress shirts are every bit as formal as white. If there is any distinction to be made it's that tuxedo shirts are white and thus maybe white is more formal by the thinnest of margins but there is not a single person at a single firm who will judge you for wearing a (proper quality/fit) light blue shirt.

I truly hope that Slack is not spending his time in Vegas faking BD's account.

Rest assured, he's not--this is the same BD as before.
