People at my firm play a game where you keep the phone list you're given from your SA and then cross them off as they leave.

Does that include your fellow SAs?

No, my class who accepted their offers are still totally intact. But 4 years+ are dropping like flies. Even the class one year ahead is like 40% depleted.

What ratio of the departed would you say was volitional vs. forced-out?

How much longer are you gonna hold out?

as long as I can. With the new bonus structure each year is huge pay raise, and my group will actually let me bill 2000 a year since its a bunch of clean cut midwestern big 10 grads. DC biglaw is like biglaw with training wheels and it still really sucks. I can't understand how NYC bros do it.

Of course the Partners will notice that they no longer have to pay $195,000 a year for someone to search TLS all day.

3rd years? probably 100% volitional. Hell probably over 100% because some who want out can't get out.

After that it is incredibly hard to tell. I know at least 3 midlevels/seniors got stealthed because their boss parnter hasn't brought in a case in years. But the thing is, you don't really know why people leave. They certainly don't tell you. You only know when's forced out if the person has no jerb when they leave.

I feel like people would say if they got told to GTFO, right? Warn their friends (or at least people they can tolerate that pass as work friends)? Who cares about saving face when you're already out the door?

Do you guys not have going away parties at bars? Once alcohol is involved people pretty freely talk shit about just about everyone and everything, including ex-employers. I have no doubt if someone got stealthed here someone would find out, either by getting the person who's leaving drunk or at least a partner or some staff member (re: managing partner's secretary) who would know.

And by someone I probably mean me, cus me and Crystal are cool like that.

A little over 4 years and it is close to 90-95% gone (and my firm isn't even highly leveraged). Mostly voluntary but not all. People definitely don't tell you when it's not voluntary. No one wants that as part of their brand.
