Is cybercrime prosecution cooler than post data breach notification compliance work?

you could be right. and less likely to require me to move to DC. it's mostly that prosecution seems like an easier route for me than in house data security. i dunno if they hire a lot of patent litigatorslacrossebrother wrote:I just think that CYBERSCURITY is the better side to be on, man
another option is like DoD or NSA I guess

Re: CYBERCRIME
I think you kind of need to be in the right place at the right time. If there are openings I think you can get something eventually, if you put in the effort to get relevant experience and are willing to go where the openings are. It was a really hard gig to get for a while, because there was a hiring freeze and there was no way in. I don't think it's as bad now.fats provolone wrote:i actually don't know. would be interested to hear the answerDesert Fox wrote:Is AUSA really that hard?fats provolone wrote:may as well say just do biglaw partner, right?911 crisis actor wrote:Just do AUSA, brother
My experience is outside the major offices, though. I'm sure it's hard to get, say, SDNY. If you have ties to somewhere or connections through your current job it helps a lot (there are former AUSAs in your firm or people from your firm at the local USAO). Also get litigation experience. In part because USAOs want people with experience (at least some), I don't think you can be as fungible when you apply as when you do OCI (where success seems to be based on your school/grades/ability to carry a conversation for 20 mins than any real fit between you and the job. I think USAOs are more interested in fit, so you have to be able to demonstrate some kind of connection with their work).

Re: CYBERCRIME
yea the litigation experience seems like a tough one in biglaw. i just figured it was brutal since it's a desirable job with relatively few spots available

Re: CYBERCRIME
I think the prudent gameplan is biglawl for 2-3 years -> AUSA -> Back to Biglawl for senior associate with lit experience.
Ironically biglaw really values trial experience but totally refuses to give any to associates. Not a single associate in my group has spent even 1 second before a judge let a lone a jury.

I think the trick is to write a couple papers, get some encryption certifications after your name, then start a blog about how FUCKED Sony and ups are.fats provolone wrote:you could be right. and less likely to require me to move to DC. it's mostly that prosecution seems like an easier route for me than in house data security. i dunno if they hire a lot of patent litigatorslacrossebrother wrote:I just think that CYBERSCURITY is the better side to be on, man
