Sure, a base level of intellectual firepower is required for biglaw work, but I think the majority of law students meet that requirement.

Biglaw does require certain skills that a lower percentage of law students have, but those skills are not necessarily related to intellectual ability.

Lol, just no. You realize that the median LSAT is like 150?

Smells like a logical fallacy

I think there's a LR question in there somewhere

All law students took the LSAT
Most law students who took the LSAT scored below the top few percentiles
Some big law work requires intellect possessed only by those who can score in the top few percentiles of the LSAT
Therefore NY to 190

This because so much of BIGLAW is based on scantron forms.

No, I think it's more like:

Most law students who took the LSAT scored below the top few percentiles
Some biglaw work requires intellect possessed only by those who can score in the top few percentiles
160K starting salary for 300K debt with NYC COL is starting to sound like an unattractive prospect to more bright students
Biglaw is slow as fuck to react to everything
Therefore in several years I could see an overcorrection in supply of biglaw-capable law grads, and THEN maybe NYC to 190

How do you guys think STB bonuses and/or NY to 190 would affect black box firms like JD. I'm posting anon, b/c I would otherwise out myself.

Any black box firm is probably going to follow the trend of salary increases but obviously they don't have to follow it completely.

The rumors of $190,000 get hot, then they become cold. Anecdotally, they seem to be heating up again. Can anyone confirm?

160 to 190 is a fairly big jump. Wouldn't 175 make more sense?

LA sucks.
Yeah, if I were balancing non-suckiness of a city with COL and legal market, then I don't see how Chicago wouldn't kill LA. Better city and lower COL. Both have good legal work.
Well, there's also a 10-20% chance you'll get murdered in Chicago on any given day. Plus, it's Cold AF there.
