Firm Holiday (& other post-acceptance) Swag

Post by North » Wed Dec 10, 2014 4:58 pm

My roommate just got a basket of stuff from the firm he's doing an SA at, so I guess it's that time of year. ITT, post pictures/descriptions of the swag you get.

Remember that this thread will serve as a valuable resource for the Class of 2017 when they are deciding among offers, so be detailed. It's also important to remember that the firm doesn't actually care about you. It's recruiting for next year.

And most importantly, with regard to the "should I wear it to class???" debate, never forget:
thesealocust wrote:If you have to ask, there is no hope in explaining it to you.

Expected positive value to wearer of firm swag: 0, under any circumstances, ever, for any reason.

Expected negative value to wearer of firm swag as a result of other people's perceptions: potentially above 0

Expected negative value to other people who may be in a sensitive position with respect to their job hunt upon seeing the wearer of firm swag: potentially above 0

RIGOROUS ANALYTICAL CONCLUSION BASED ON PRINCIPALS OF ECONOMIC ANALYSIS: Oh my god I hate everyone on this planet. Reading TLS literally doubles the number of times I pray for death every day.

Why God, why.

Debevoise sent both offer (nice mug and $20 Starbucks gift card) and acceptance (iPod Shuffle) gifts. Nothing on the holiday swag front yet. Anyone know if they've sent holiday swag in the past?

Skadden & Simpson with the nice gym bags. I actually plan on using mine.

Latham with the finals survival pack that comes in a weird mini-notebook case without the notebook.

Simpson's gym bag came after offers were accepted back in September or early Oct.. so it's not really a holiday gift. Skadden's gym bags did come out very recently though.

I mean, I don't think we had a general post-acceptance swag thread this year so this can be that too.

Chicago sent a tin of popcorn. Had a customized lid that said Skadden too.

Cadwalader sent out a gray fleece-lined vest with the stylized firm name on it. I'll post a picture later. It's pretty nice.

Random question re: VAULT RANKINGS that I thought of while I was copying and pasting

I think I know the answer, but that means I've been reading TLS wrong for a long time

When people say "I'm at a V30" does that mean "one of the Vault Firms between 30 and 39" or "one of the Vault Firms between 21 and 30"?

So, like, is it correct or incorrect to call Milbank a V30?

This is important because the answer could significantly alter how impressed I am with certain TLSers.

Pretty sure V30 means any firm in the top 30, like how V10 means the top 10 and V5 means the top 5.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
