Securities Knowledge for Patent Attorney?

Post by Anonymous User » Fri Oct 03, 2014 7:22 pm

Would securities experience during fall/spring contribute at all to being a future patent attorney? For example, possibly when counseling companies that background may be useful? Or better just to concentrate on school? Also, what would firms think about seeing this kind of experience during law school?

From what I have heard, the only division of the SEC that you can do outside of DC is enforcement. Would that division help or would it be better to study in DC for a semester and have a pick of the division? And in that vein, is there a particular division, or office, that would be more relevant than others?

Your managing partner will not care, because worthwhile IP work is generally science-focused.

Legit patent trolls might want to see how you are able to evaluate patent portfolios, though.

This is how those 2 Ropes Gray guys got caught insider trading.
