New associate @ regional office of biglaw firm taking Qs
Started this month. Figured I'd take some questions if anyone had them regarding life at a smaller office of a big firm as a new associate.
FWIW, office is around 10-20 attorneys. Overall firm is 500+.

1) OCI, summered elsewhere second year, liked this firm so much I came back as an associate when they offered me.
2) Right now it's sort of hectic. I do lit and summer and fall are pretty crazy work wise. We have a sub 2000 billable requirement, but not by much. So it's definitely doable. I've been swamped since I walked in the door with legitimate work, though.
I wasn't expecting so much work right away (and higher level stuff than anticipated), but it's been great.

Place does pay the area equivalent of NYC 160, though.

Did you take this over any major BigLaw offices? I'm considering taking a position like this in SV, which focuses on IP Pros/Lit. Outpost of major biglaw firm.
Were you at all concerned about not getting an offer after the summer? About work drying up at the office or anything? Feel nervous about partnership prospects?

1. I did. I had an offer at a big east coast firm at their main office. I truly enjoyed the firm I am at now so much that I took their offer.
2. I was somewhat concerned but just because I'm a typical law student. The partners I worked with loved me and specifically told me to contact them after 2L summer. I got an offer basically on the spot when I called.
3. Not concerned at all about work drying up. Not only do we do work in our state, but we also get a good amount of work from the main office and even other satellite offices.
4. Partnership prospects -- it seems that the firm is not up or out. I doubt I'd ever be up for equity, but non-equity or of counsel is likely if I want to stay that long.
