Simplicity posting where you apply directly rather than through email or link = resume collect.

It's a process where good grades people get a callback without having to interview and your resume gets thrown away.

Curious as to this, are resume collects a worthwhile way of applying? Or if generally interested in the firm would it be better to personally email a resume, cover letter, and transcript to someone at the firm or schedule some sort of informational lunch first?

GPA is ~ top 25 to 33% at T14.

Probably doesn't matter, it seems like both are just rolling the dice on what mood you catch recruiting in and where in the pile your app falls. People will be successful both ways.

I personally went around resume collects because I could control the email subject line, aka the one thing you KNOW they will read.

You should do it both ways. With the volume of resumes that firms get via mass mail and resume collects, by sending it both ways you double your chances of your resume being seen. And it isn't as if they're going to cross check and punish you for sending your resume both ways. Your chances of getting interest is probably comparable with mass mail and resume collects, honestly. I know only one person who got a job through a resume collect (at a V5 firm), and that was the ONLY response she got from all ~80 firms participating in the resume collect.

Resume collect firms don't come to your school to conduct interviews they way firms do for OCI. You submit via the same system, but then the firm does its own thing on its own schedule. OCI firms have committed to show up at your school and interview some set number of students.

You know how sometimes a hot chick posts a photo on facebook, and then a bunch of guys who are extremely unlikely to ever get with her like the photo and/or comment on it? Resume collect is kind of like that.

Yes

that takes 5 mins jeez

Well, sending a very generic one takes 5. For the positions I'm a strong shot at (ties +grades, i.e.), I try to personalize a bit more, maybe spending 30 minutes. That was more what I'm asking.

I mean if you rather watch a family guy episode than help yourself become employed what do you want.

What do you put in the subject line that grabs attention without being gimmicky?
