Tips for Resume Blast Forum

Sending out my resume and cover letter to a ton of firms for an associate position after graduation. Any tips? Especially on the cover letter...

Not to be a dick but massmailing for a grad position is probably a waste of time. It's not like before 2L year where you know that almost all the firms you send stuff to will be hiring SAs. 3L hiring, at least at big firms, is so attenuated and so practice specific that just sending emails to a bunch of firms isn't going to land you anything. 2) Mass mail - low return for even the minimal amount of time it takes to research/mail merge due to the fact that the firms you mail must want to hire and want to hire AT THE TIME you mail and often they are looking to fill a specific practice need

If this dude doesn't have a job then it's not a waste of time to mass mail. It's worth a shot.

Tip: please quadruple check for typos, make,sure that you're addressing the letter to the right person. Also, don't just rehash your resume. Lotta people tend to do this. Give a quick rundown of your qualifications, but talk more about why you're right for the job.

Pulling one positive thing out of this, I think it makes sense to try and apply for fairly specific areas within their firm that either they are known for or you seem particularly qualified for. This could make you stand out and I doubt they would ding you because "she wants private equity, but we're only hiring in M&A" or whatever. Best of luck.
