Summer Associate
This might be a stupid question, but whatever, I'm snowed in and have nothing but law school on my mind so yeah. How hard is it to get a summer associate position at a big firm? Is it mostly T14ers who get these? Outside of the T14, do you need to be top 10% or better to get one usually? If you're in the top 25% at say UNC or Wake Forest, is it going to be nearly impossible to land a good SA position in that region (from NC up to D.C.)?

0Ls - if you are one, OP, ahem - are not allowed to post here. But there are tons and tons of posts about this issue generally in the legal employment forum, so use the search feature and read around without posting (assuming you're snowed in with nothing to do). Also, a lot of the discussions in the general application topics get into this - whenever users tell someone to retake to get in to a school with better employment prospects, this is what they're talking about; they're talking about the opportunity to get a biglaw job (not that everyone wants to do that, but it's still an accepted metric for measuring the kinds of jobs you can get out of a given school). This is exactly what users are talking about when they tell someone to look at Law School Transparency for employment stats.
Keep in mind that if 25% of a school's students get biglaw, that doesn't mean you have to be in the top 25% to get it, nor that being in the top 25% is a guarantee (people have WE or connections that can help them punch beyond their class rank, other people with excellent grades may not be able to interview out of a paper bag), but it gives you a rough idea.
Also keep in mind that in some parts of the world there just isn't a lot of biglaw to get. Charlotte biglaw is not anything the same as NYC biglaw. The fewer positions, the greater competition (and the local Charlotte students will be competing with people from the T14 who want to get back to Charlotte).
